Stealthy, I actually used your build as a reference point. A beautifully designed cab you've got there. I appreciate you stopping by! I love the attention to detail on your cab, the ingenuity on this forum is downright ridiculous.Awesome man!! Since this is my first build, I have been constantly refining/changing everything.
Here are my current problems:
1. I don't like my light trap. It's straight ghetto.
2. The speedster fan controller makes the fan hum.
3. Air movement can be heard.
4. Cab is by a shared wall
5. MDT-1 and pump clicks on every 5 minutes and is causing sleep issues.
Here are my planned solutions:
1. Create a light trap using 2-3 2" PVC ducts to the bottom side of the cab so that air is taken from the side of the cab. Air will be exhausted to the opposite side.
2. Just bought a Variac Transformer to eliminate fan hum.
3. Converting 6" aluminum ducting to 4" insulated ducting. 4" should be enough for a 12 cu ft.
4. Either option a or b.
a. Moving the cab to the walk in closet where the cab would be against a perimiter wall and the shared wall has a wall of clothing to dampen any noise.
b. Purchasing blocks of 12"x12" soundproofing wedge foam to line the shared wall.
5. If the cab isn't moved into the closet, hanging a privacy drape on the sides of the cab to hide the ducting should help with most of the noise from the pump/MDT-1 clicking.
If anyone has any advice, on #4 I would love to hear it. I did not put the cab in the walk in closet initially due to concerns over heat and smell attaching to my clothing. If smell isn't going to be an issue (I have a non-DIY carbon filter), I am pretty sure I can just leave the door to the walk in open to circulate the air in that room. I rent so cutting into drywall is something I would like to avoid if possible and I do not have an attic so venting anywhere but the room will not work.
I will post some updated pictures tonight. Sorry for the delays, it's been a crazy month.

Hi dude, I am unsure what you mean by 'light-trap' where and how have you mounted your in line fan? Even in my setup you can hear air movement but you can lesser it a number of ways...If you upload an up to date pic I'll help if I can also to reduce noise you can add UNDERLAY & CARPET to the top, back and sides of your unit (outside) to make it quieter against your neighbours wall use spray adhesive and a staple gun. Also either hang your air pump up, or place it on a sponge...In my old unit I placed my air pump inside a plastic lined air tight wooden biscuit tin (suspended inside from the lid by the power cord) and drilled tiny air holes in the lid I then suspended the biscuit box and the pump then became silent....Its a neat trick and it helps to contain noise Hope that helps...

Of course, post away! I would love to see where you are with the cab. You have a nice one there, I may have to swap out my cabinet in the future with a new one to minic yours a bit, there are a ton of things I would do differently now that I have started my first build.
A light trap is something that blocks light from getting into an intake.
In my pictures you can see the fan and intake are just sitting on the ground. Once I get the light trap PVC setup, I will be mounting the fan/CO2 filter using bungee cords and an L bracket to the top back of the cab.
I will look into getting some carpeting to at least line the back of the cab. I will leave the sides intact so that it isn't too obvious what is contained within. That should partially solve the water pump/sprayers issue, however my fan and MDT-1 will still make noticeable noise. I am thinking that in addition to the carpet I will still line the wall behind the cab with soundproofing (probably carpeting) and put privacy curtains on the sides to hide any ducting. That should reduce any sounds from bouncing off the wall back to my sleeping ears.
I am not using an air pump, my water pump is sitting on a sponge already, the noise from the pump is primarily from the sprayers and the drainage.

There's a few wires that still need to be hidden and my reptile UV-B lights still need to be bought and installed
but apart from that she's set up to go! I may get some new timers I'll look into getting the best of the best (Simple, straight forward and effective).You always find that no matter how perfect you think your setup is ...like me, you'll always find summink extra or summink to do differently
Oh you mean like a duct cover? I had one on my old unit and modified it to let the air through but keep the light out.
Bunjee cords are great for hanging fans..takes all the vibrations + noise out, (very good idea)
