UPDATE - DAY 21

Well, they're 3 weeks old today. For the most part they look great.

The smaller of the two is showing signs of nute burn again, this time on the younger leaves higher up. I'm supposed to be using 3 tsp Grow Big and 1 tbl Big Bloom for this rez change, but because of the nute burn I'm going with only 2 tsp GB and 1 tsp instead of 1 tbl BB. Not happy about the nute burn, but believe it or not that is the least of my worries.

Ready for the bad news? I'm pretty sure I've got some stem rot going on with the larger plant. :cuss:

I did a little reading on pythium and I believe thats what its got. If I'm right, than I can probably kiss it goodbye, and maybe the other one too since its a fungus that easily spreads via water.

The roots on both plants seem very healthy, no sign of rot, and the veg growth hasnt slowed as far as I can tell. Hopefully I'm wrong about the stem rot/pythium thing, but the white mold/rot-looking shit on the one plant's stem makes me think otherwise.

FUCK!!!

Goddamnit, the plants were so bushy that I never really had a clear view of the stem when I checked them each day. The spot of mold or whatever it is was on the back of the stem, not facing the door of the cabinet, so I didn't even notice it until I pulled them out today to do the rez/nute change.

I turned off the AG pump like 4 or 5 days ago I think based on some stuff I read on here about preventing stem rot... looks like it may have been too late. I'm really not sure how long it has been that way.

And here I thought everything was going so well. If anyone has any ideas on how to save my babies (if, in fact, they really need saving) please please please let me know.

Heres all the pics I just took for the week 3 update. They look pretty good though, right? Like little marijuana shrubs. Not a lot of vertical growth, but hey, they're lowryders. Theres one blurry ass pic in there of the stem rot... couldnt get a clear shot with my crappy camera

First steps to take to remove root rot:

Step 1: Turn off the AG water pump for good.

Step 2: Make sure the humidity in the room is less than 50%.

Step 3: Go to Lowes or somewhere and get some fungicide spray. I used Daconil. Use it once a week on the stems.

Step 4: Pray.

Gave the stems a fungicide treatment. Hope it works. The larger plant with the gnarly stem has had some pretty explosive new growth just since last night, so hopefully thats a good sign. Gonna have to raise the AG hood lights soon... maybe tonight.

Come on plants!!!! Pull through this shit!

I like that optimism!

They're still standing, and definitely still growing. The larger of the two has sprouted some big new leaves just since yesterday that look like they might be the first to actually try and stretch a little.

Still crossing my fingers about the stem rot thing...

The stem rot should clear up real soon. I only had to use the fungicide twice, so let's hope it goes that well for you, too!

Yeah I was reading about pythium on here and basically what I got out of it was that my plants were goners no matter what I did. Seriously, I went from being stoked about my grow to basically giving up on it in like a day. But then I sprayed that fungicide and it looks like the parts that were white turned brown almost immediately. And the plants themselves are looking better than ever!

So Fox, you said spray it on only once a week till its gone, right? Not like every few days? This fungicide is the first non-organic shit I've used on them so far... don't wanna stress 'em out or poison 'em or anything. Of course I'm sure their stems rotting out from under them is probably worse, eh? Thanks for the help man. Soon as you posted about the fungicide I went out and got it. Probably saved my grow!

I think I waited 5 days before I used it again. Yeah, prevention is the best, but cure is better than death.

Your plants are looking really good. My hope is to use the lowryder seeds in my areogarden. I have the same thing going but i am just starting week 2. I had 2 seedlings, one's stem withered out and the little dude just fell over. The second plant is steady growing fast. I now have other seeds that just finished germinating in the AG. Keep it up! Cant wait to keep watching your grow

I hear that. Thanks again.

Thanks man. I think the AG and lowryders are a pretty good fit. Feel free to hit me up if you've got questions or anything. And good luck with your grow. :peace:

Hope the steam clears up. I'll subscribe to your grow. Your LR's are looking great. I started my 2nd LR grow 3 weeks ago. I'll try to get a thread up today.

Thanks man. I'll def scope your thread if you get it up.

How's the stem rot coming along?
Stem rot seems to be under control. I hit it with the fungicide again 5 days after the first treatment. Theres one particularily nasty spot on the larger plant that stayed kinda white and moldy looking after the first dose, but the second has definitely caused it to recede. I'll probably give it one more spray in a few days, but I think they're gonna make it ok.

Other than that, not much to report. I've been topping off with strictly PH'd water all week, no nutes, to stop the minor nute burn on the one plant. They've definitely been drinking a lot of water. They're starting to branch out a little more, though my damn cabinet is really just too tight for them to get too big. I finally raised the AG hood. Raising it one notch had put the lights higher above the plants than I would like, so maybe we'll finally see some stretching. I wish the lamp arm raised in smaller increments...

No sign of flowering that my noob eyes can detect, which I think means that they're blooming a little later than they're supposed to, but I'm not too worried about that. They seem healthy :)

Heres what they look like

Very nice grow man... Those bitches are bushy as hell... I just kinda skimmed through the whole grow.. I loike the closet alot... I gott question about overall space though... does it feel like its restricting the plant alot... does it get WAY too hot in there....?? Just curious... I want some low ryder seeds too.. those are cool.

Like SICC said... def takes over week to show sex... especially if they are ladies..

OVERALL AWESOME GROW!!

Yo Alex thanks for checking out the grow man. Yeah I got some fat chicks:hump: lol. I guess thats what happens when you feed 'em alot right from day one hehe.

As far as the cabinet, its really not restricting the plants too much. Vertically they've got tons of room to grow, its the width x depth that are more limiting. One of the ladies is starting to branch out a bit and her leaves are now touching the cabinet walls. If those branches grow up, which they probably will since there is really no other direction for them to grow, then I'm all good. I was a little worried about what the heat might be like when I started, but its never been a problem. I have a temp/hygrometer that shows the high and low of each day, and its been very consistent: low of 70F and High of 80F. The only problem in regards to heat from the lights that I've had was with the reservoir temperature. It tended to get very hot, which was causing the PH to fluctuate and probably had a hand in allowing the stem rot to occur. I finally raised the AG hood lamp a few days ago and the rez temp went down drastically, so no more worries there.

Oh, and I'm not worried about the plants showing sex... they're feminized seeds :) . If they turn out to be males then I'll just have to call up the place I ordered them from and tell them that those feminized seeds I bought for souvenier purposes only turned out not to be fems and that I'm very upset, although I have no way of proving it because of course I didnt actually grow them because that would be illegal. lol

Anyway, this is turning into a rant, so I'll hang it up now.

UPDATE TONIGHT... W/ PICTURES!

So check back! :peace:
