This isn't a substitute for calibrating your meter, but don't forget to get a water quality report from your utility company. They provide these free of charge and will tell you what ppm you can expect (may vary seasonally) as well as other things like calcium, sodium, etc.

Go to their website, you should be able to download it.

so if its at 63 theres not really a point in getting RO water to reduce the ppm only 30 for 20$ a week

Don't waste your money and water (R/O filters produce a lot of waste water). I did my first grow (picture in my avatar) using my 500 ppm tap water and it turned out great, so I would not be worried about 63.

my tap is 280-300 ppm I wouldn't worrie about r/o if your under 150ppm outta tap anything over 200ppm is hard and should be reduced but does not mean it wont work...you should be fine

damn papa 500 ppm thats crazy is that mexicos water lol j/k

Quick question. If I'm growing hydroponically and I want my reservoir to be at 900 ppm with nutes, do I actually want 1200ppm because my tap water is at 300? My two waterfarms just arrived today and I can't wait for my clones to root.

I say no, you want 900 total... I personally don't go over 1000 for flower and around 600 for veg. My tap is 250 PPM & full strength nutes for me come out to about 650 veg & 950 flower... That's in my DWC the ladies seem to do better at around 900 PPM

no you add the two, you dont put in 900 nutes of you want 900 ppm and your water is 250, you would add 650 instead
