My third grow, Afghan weed

This is officially day 63 of the flowering cycle. I have already cut down plant number one, as it matured quickly, and most of the hairs are brown. She has dried for about a week, and now i'm ready to trim the buds and start the curing process. i'm assuming there will be a half ounce to an ounce on her:





The other huge plant is still growing thicker, but i'm finally seeing some brown hairs on her(maybe about 20%-35% brown), I know shes about a week or so away from maturity, I gave her a last half strength dose of 5-30-5. I will now be using regular declorinated water until the end. She now stands at 48" tall(4 feet).







I have noticed that since I have introduced a UV tube to her, she has responded with increased trichome production. Nothing too major, but I have seen a difference in trichomes. She has also matured more, and looks more "exotic". I don't know if time has just matured her this way or if the UV light does has some effect on the plants(like making it feel more like a tropical setting for them, thus growing more "exotically").

Overall I am really looking forward to this last plant to come out right, because she looks 10 times better then the other plant, and also has about double to triple the amount of bud on it. Her smell is heavy, almost like fuel. While the other plant's smell got lighter and sweeter with drying.

I am guessing that in one more week, when I post again, my "tower" should be around 45-50% brown. I will then decide whether i'd give it another week or not.

Today is fortunatly day 70 of the flowering cycle, and I decided it's about time to chop down the last sucker. I have it currently in the 72 hour dark stage before chop, so sorry, no pics for you guys. I do have other pictures to show you guys though. I have my buds curing in two jars from the shorter plant, and I did take pictures. I have about 42 grams(close to 1 3/4 ounces) wet from the first smaller-yielding plant. The bud's happen to be about half dried already.

I already trimmed them, and took all of the visible seeds out and have about 100+ seeds. They also may need a final quick trim before smoking.
They have been in curing about one week so far. I have been opening the jars to "burp" them once or twice a day, and sometimes leave the lid off for 30 mins to one hour. I have them in a cool dark place with medium humidity. I will leave them for 1-3 weeks longer, depending on how fast they happen to dry. They seem to be drying at a slow, perfect pace.
Anyway, when I chop the other plant, I will take a last picture, before I trim her in 48 hours or so. I am hoping to get 2-3 ounces wet from the other, she is medium-heavy yielding.

It's been a hell of a ride guys, but it's almost time for the final product.
I'm seriously glad this is all coming to a close. All this time and money spent into the whole thing, and I can finally enjoy a lower electricity bill!

I have right now, the first batch in the jars curing.. and I had a few buds starting to get mold spots on them, so I had to wash the jars with bleach, and cut off the mold spots. They seem to be doing alright now. It also seems like they are getting real close to the perfect wetness level. They are just about ready to smoke.

The second plant is hanging upside down in my pitch black closet, after being in the 72 hour dark stage b4 the chop. There is a fan blowing a gentle breeze to help with the drying, the temp is about 20-25 degrees celcius, and the humidity 35-45%.


Here is a picture of the top of the plant, it's really weird how the top is shaped.. i think it is due to the fact it burned at one point in the grow, and it regrew with several tops:


This is a picture of the whole mother, after I took most of the fan leaves and bigger leaves off of her.


I think she will make some great buds, yet the buds do seem mostly kind airy and fluffy, although they do have a medium amount of trichomes on them.. I have yet to wait to try her out. The first Plant was harvested when about 95% of the hairs were brown, yet this one was harvested at about 50/50 white to brown hair ratio. Mostly cloudy trichomes, will give a more up buzz, while the resin that he afghani produces will mellow it down abit.

I actually think this second plant is not really an afghani.. I may have mixed up seeds, as they look mostly the same. Her growth patterns differ from the first plant(which is definatly an afghani strain). She is taller, with fluffier buds, and has a different bud structure. This can be due to many causes that I wont really explain here. Anyway's, I really look forward to sampling them for the first time, and see what the difference in buzz will be.

Oh also, here is a picture of one of the new buds that I cut off early and put into a jar to cure. You will notice it is airy and sparse, a difference from the ther buds which are thicker and more compact:




I will try to get some really good pictures of the final product of the two plants for you's, when they are finished drying and curing. I will sample them and compare the two types of buzzes.

The largest plant- looks like more of a high(fluffier buds, lighter green, more cloudy trichomes)


This is more of a low(amber trichomes, darker, more compact)


All-in-all, I think I have gotten a little over 3 ounces dry from the two plants.. not a bad yield I should say for my first successful grow(third attempt at growing). Two ounces from the larger plant(light, fluffy buds), and a little over one ounce from the smaller momma(more resin to weigh it down)


I look forward to creating another grow journal to lay a little knowledge on you newer guys, and since I have gotten seeds from these mothers, I will see how the offspring will turn out. I also thought of trying the Ice strain for the next grow. Although I will relax a bit for now, until I run out of green. I hope this layed a little bit of knowledge on your guys, and I hope you enjoyed all the pics, even though they arn't to clear.. thanks aswell to all yous who kept this thread from being a single person thing .

The next grow will consist of MH, HPS, and a hydroponic grow system. I will be very ready for an amazing yield. Peace!
