Hey everyone,

I found this fungi in my yard, I'm sure I've seen it before, but I figured out by accident how to grow it for I put a certain type of compost pile together out in my yard over the winter which was mild but here it is.

I am sure because it is fungi I can mix it into my soils mixes and it will be beneficial, with my current career, night college classes and chasing skirts I just can't manage the time to research this by looking at hundreds of pictures hoping to get a shout out from someone.... YO DANKSWAG that Fungi you got there is...

That my friend is a type of Ascomycota.


Ascomycota
This is the largest phylum of Fungi, with over 64,000 species. The 2 main groups are:

Pezizomycotina have fruiting bodies similar to mushrooms and includes morels, truffles, ergot and cup fungi.
Saccharomycotina comprise most of the yeasts, including the very important, baker's yeast.
Maybe @DonTesla can chime in here...he loves him some Fungi!

It looks like mouse ear fungus.
Is it velvety like rubbing a mouses ear or maybe a hamster? I'm being serious.if so,it could be delectable.. But I still wouldn't eat it..for more info look in the Audubon society feildguide to north american mushrooms.

Hey my friends so far I'm going with Phylum Ascomycota Genus Peziza based on what I've seen so far. I have yet to check out the Audubon society feildguide.,
so I'm reserving judgment till I see it. If I'm correct I should inoculate my soils with this fungi?

No,you should get mycogrow..its $6 a pack and has more bennies than any other product on the market,last I read.

hey a friend and i found that exact same fungus growing at my place yesterday and went mushroom hunting last night. we found some cool ones but nothing edible. i found it in a bunch of old hay laying in a pasture, it was growing in the hay that was all over the ground. ill look for what it is later today but if you find out let me know as well because I'm curious too. thanks

But thsee I have in abundance for free and adding them into the root zone of my soils is better than nothing right?

Exactly what I was thinking feed it to my worms or let it set in one of my recycled soil bins...

I do make tea on occasion I could throw some in with the brewing compost.

DonPetro knows his fungi what I have is certainly Phylum Ascomycota Genus Peziza...

Thank you Don...I will be collecting this and incorporating them into my soil biology via compost and compost tea...

Do you plan on isolating it and growing it out again for replenished random shroom additions to your soil?
Myco grow..its $6-7 for an ounce.

Hi Rory,

Yeah I've been looking at videos on how to collect and grow your own mycorrhizae very interested in producing my own... I do have packaged spores from various companies. I like the idea of being able to add some indigenous fungi to my soil bins.
