Thanks for explaining that far more eloquently than me Brick Top. Right now, it has go through/is in the process of going through 3 house committees--Health, Judiciary II, and Finance. Beyond that, I imagine it will have to make similar Senate rounds as you indicated. So yeah, its got a while still, but it won't be enacted until Dec 1 2009 anyway.

That means lots of time to continue contacting your local legislator and those serving on the committees./quote]

Wow, I did not read it had three committees to clear. That is bad news for sure. Not as in it is definitely dead in the water but it greatly reduces the odds. In Representative Pricey Harrison’s own words; "I hope we can get some traction on this issue. Last year, I don’t even think we could get the issue studied. I think it is a good sign that the Obama Administration has reversed the Bush practice of going after medical marijuana users in states where it is legal- an important first step." Of course that was not so accurate, the stopping the raids part since recently President Obama made it clear that raids on medical marijuana dispensaries will continue.

But the telling or worrying part is; "I hope we can get some traction on this issue. Last year, I don’t even think we could get the issue studied." If people, of both parties, we so adamantly against it just last year that there are doubts if it could even have been studied I find it hard to believe there has been a total change of heart/belief by many.

One thing I did leave out of the process to become State law is that if it manages to be passed by both State Houses it still has to be signed into law by the Governor so that is one more task of convincing we might have to do IF we can convince enough members of both State Houses to pass the legislation.

I wonder how much "traction" it could have possibly had over the past 8 years with a conservative-controlled congress. In the last election, we removed all those conservative legislators holding us back (like Lewis Pate...hate that guy) so I think we "changed the tires" so to speak. Doesn't guarantee the car won't slide into a ditch, but presumably it won't make it worse.

Website still says the same thing...nothing new since 4/13. I emailed Earl Jones just now (he's one of the primary sponsors of the bill) requesting an update. So I'll let you know if/when he replies.

Not sure if it violates any rules...did you want a copy of the email I sent or his reply (because he hasn't replied yet). I'll definitely post his reply, provided it's not a violation.
