Not typically. But if you're already starving her might as well lock her in a dark closet for a few days.

Just grow the bloody plant and then harvest it. They get a dark period every day, and will get indefinite darkness when you harvest.

I've let my plants dry in place several times now, so they are probably in the dark for a week before they are fully dead, and it had no effect on potency even when I compared clones that I harvested in different conditions. Focus instead on your drying/curing conditions and try to do a nice "low and slow" dry to hold onto your terps.
