So long story short. I divided the room that has my grow tent. (keep wife happy)

now that its in a smaller room I am running into temp issues with my MH/HPS
I have 2 X 400watt bulbs in one air-cooled hood. but crank up the second 400 and she in the mid 80s

Now a while ago I bought two Mars hydro 100watt COB,s ( GET THE CROSS AND HOLLY WATER) LOL
they work awesome and my plants exploded in veg.

With all that being said. I have learned from surfing this forum that there are some other small company's around that make kick ass LEDs/COBs.

BASICLY:
I got a 1000-1200$ budget
3x3 tent
I would like to put something good that will last for years in it.

Brands I was looking into

Timber grow lights
Amare
KIND
Apollo
Cali light works
Black dog led

What do you recommend

Nice budget. Better than most have when they want to turn to LED.

A HLG 260w quantum board kit will light up a 3 x 3 nicely. Doesn't even come close to your budget.
A HLG 550 or 600 will also light it up nice, although they cover a 5x5 and I feel you would have to dim it a bit.

All the other suggestions will also rock your space.

Timber or PLC, tasty too if he hasn't wrapped up all his business already. Also chilLED.

Options you have many. I would go with the cobs or boards rather than mixed colour spectrum lights like blackdog for example. Good LEDs do cost money but you don't have to be extorted.

Nearly all the manufacturers that I'd suggest have already been mentioned in the first four posts. I suppose I'll include photonfantom into the conversation based on the reviews I've seen from reputable growers. Spectrum King is also a reputable company that wasn't mentioned.

With all that being said, I don't think you'll need to come anywhere near $1,000-$1,200 to light up a 3x3. I think $500-$700 is a more realistic figure, and probably even less if you go the DIY route.

DIY is possible. it would be nice to be under budget

At the end of the day I want to be happy with what I bought. if that means saving up a couple extra bucks that's fine.

is their a point that led gets too much?

HID the general rule is if you can keep you environment in check the more light the better

Would the same principle apply with putting a high end 1000watt COB light in a 3x3?

For 9 square feet, 450 watts of cobs will max you out.. 1000 watt cobs would be too much light... I have 50 cob watts a square foot and I have to be very careful not to bleach out the tops...
Contact cobkits for DIY .. 9 cobs @ 50 watts would be perfect for a 3x3..

I recommend removing (totally erasing followed w/ a lobotomy focused on the led thought section of the brain, CLW uses good components but still doesn't compete IMO) all of your current considerations listed in your first post except for Timber & Amare.
Both those companies have plenty of options.
I know more about Amare & what's going on w/ them though. W/ that said, they are coming out w/ one light that replaces all of their other lights under 500w. I'd have to dig into my e-mails to tell you more so your best bet would be to contact Victor (the owner) direct for answers. That leads you to option B w/ them & that is getting one of their current models for allot less then the normal price to make way for the new ones.

Amare pricey and not efficient....

I disagree. They're actually one of the least expensive while being the most expensive to make. Discounts included.
Don't know why you think they're not efficient?
Edit: They've always used the most efficient components available @ the time, upgrade ASAP & drive they're leds between 40-60% depending on the model & component (doide or cob).
They're newest fixture, the Bar8 is reported to be 2.3 Umols/w @ 550w & 2.2 @ 800w w/ a large jump in PPFD (what matters) for sacrificing a little efficiency. Pretty decent considering most competitors in class are 1.8-2.3
There's so much misinformation floating around.

Cool! Might need to dim it a little if incorporating the 2 Mars Cobs but you'll have an awesome mixed spectrum.
I firmly believe In enhancing white.
My Amare's cause the buds to turn purple in most strains I have & deff bring out their natural colors. They work very similar to adding or switching to MH towards the end of flower. I'd imagine adding those Mars cobs will do the same. More trich & Terps too.
