Need Advice for Getting Started

Hi everyone,

This is my first ever attempt at a grow and I am trying to get it all figured out. There's a lot to learn.

Here's my situation.

I am looking to grow in this space. The dimensions are 16" tall, 52" length and 18.5" wide. From what ive been told this is not high enough. I can raise the bench to a max of 2ft. Will that be sufficient for a ScrOG grow?

I know that a maturing plant will grow to be taller than 2ft so thats where I thought ScrOG would be a wise choice as I have a lot of horizontal room where I lack vertical room.

As I live in the Vancouver area, heat is not an issue and the cold is rarely an issue as well. The problem I am concerned about is at night when there is no heat in the shed that the plants might get too cold. Should I consider purchasing a heater or will the HPS lights be hot enough to keep the plants warm?

Lights:

I decided to go with this:

Lumatek 400 Watt Complete Light Kit Dual Voltage Electronic ballast. Will this be usable in the full life of the plant?

Seeds:

Is Northern lights a good seed to start with? Suggestions otherwise?

Fans: I planned on using PC fans and cutting holes in the sides(or is top better?) I do have access to cold fresh air from the outside.

Here is where I wonder how many fans I require and where the best place/cheapest I can get.

No where near enough room with HPS light. You'll need a good 2 feet just for the light which won't leave any real estate for the plants. You'd have to go with LED or CFL or something else if you move forward.

Thank you for the feedback. I will start researching CFL lights and see if that is a possible option.

If not I will also look into LEDs again. From what I've read though LEDs are very unreliable. Any suggestions on a decent LED for 5 plants? Not looking to break the bank but I do understand you get what you pay for.

Sorry, I'm an HPS and MH guy. No experience with LED but many others here can help you.

they have the SGS for 400 ish that is one of the cheapest lights your gonna get that has been proven on these boards.

I don't have them for myself I have advancedledlights.com xte and diamond series but they cost a pretty penny more. I have no clue wether one is better than the other but I know they will grow you buds.

I was joking about throwing it away I just wanted to see if your going to actually take advice from people because you honestly don't want a plant thats only 6 inches tall.
