At first I was thinking indoor for my first grow, but now I'm thinking outdoor might be more realistic for me to do. Anyways I'm looking for a good strain to order, good for outdoors, maybe a little more forgiving since it will be my first grow and I'll probably make mistakes, and obviously something with good potency. So far Ive been told Northern Lights would be a good choice, any other suggestions?

i dont really have any suggestions, just wanted to say that my first grow was outdoor and i learned so much, moved onto a indoor grow and it was alot different.
i do want to warn you tho, once you start growing your own you will never stop so make sure this is something you can live with

I'm in the mid-west USA climate I've heard from other Midwest growers that usually may is when they can go outside, and as far as starting them inside, is that the best way to do it, or is seed in ground ok? I will start indoor just to get em goin if that's the best route to go

Is midwest a good enough detail to get an idea of my climate? Didn't really wanna get any more detailed of specific state
Northern Lights Blue, never heard of that northern lights hybrid, so is any of the Northern Lights strains a good choice for a first outdoor grow?

There are many strains out there that would probably work for you. I am most concerned with fall weather. What's the precipitation like mid-September to mid-October? If it is generally very wet (like it is here) you are going to want something that is proven mold resistant and possibly finishes early. Once you find a few strains that look interesting to you do a little research either here or google and look for actual outdoors grows with it. A lot of people grow random strains every year without problem, but if this is your first season I'd highly suggest doing some research on a given strain before you decide to use it. I'll be trying several Emerald Triangle strains this year. I have no experience with them, but based on the grows I've seen and my past experience I'm fairly confident they will work for my climate and general situation.

I heard guys were having problems with that strain lately. They say the dr lost the original strain and couldnt bring it back. Its just internet talk but who knows.
The most forgiving strain I've grown is blue dream. Its mold resistant as well and very sturdy. A good choice for a beginer.
Power Plant from Nirvana was also one that I grew for several seasons. Not as mold resistant as the blue dream, but an easy grow with very good yields. It was my first attempt at outdoor growing and I ended up growing it for several seasons due to its hardy nature.
I've also had good results with c-99, my favorite daytime smoke. I only planted one outdoors last season, but I got 1 1/2 lbs off of it. (Ive grown c99 indoors for several years). I like c99 due to its short flowering time. I planted it around june 1 and harvested around the end of oct. which was good because we had some really wet and windy weather in November which shredded several of my plants which took longer to flower.
The midwest covers a lot of territory, with a multitude of climates, so you have to make the decision based upon your local weather conditions. Is it windy? do you get early or late frost? Is it usually very humid around Oct or Nov? All these play into your choice of strain.
Sorry I couldn't be much help, but I can only go by what I've experienced where I am at. Just keep reading the forums and check out other peoples grow reports to get a good idea of what youy will run up against.

benrhx- there are many great plants that would suit you just fine. look for companies that are known for outdoor varieties especially canadian ones. stay away from dutch seed companies for outdoor plants. i have wasted wads of cash trying overly hyped dutch, overpriced plants that are only suited for indoor cultivation no matter what they tell you.
a good heavy indica will suit you fine. look into canadian companies like east island, west coast seeds, next generation and kooteney mtn. they do not advertise much and will not have the uniformity an expensive variety will have but they are made for the outdoors and will be great ganja if grown well. when i first began growing mighty mite crosses, mendocino madness (thseeds) dutch treat (east island) and afgani crosses were some of my first successes. you can still find them for sale and for quite cheap. timewarp, ultimate indica, burmese kush have done well for me in the past years as well.
i must be able to harvest no later than oct 10th where i am at, earlier if possible.
someone said endless sky i grew endless sky about 3 years back and it was incredible a perfect plant but i also did here some people were getting bad batches. doc.greenthumb has many good outdoor varieties but expensive if it is your first time growing i would buy several cheaper kinds rather than one expensive one.

i was going to say if you can and i highly recomend it. start them indoors under floros, compact floros or a MH lamp if you have one. if using shop floros mix warm and cool bulbs for good light spectrum and fill them in as close as possible, the lights that is. get your tops as close to the light as possible without burning. shop lights won't burn but cfls and mh bulbs will. make sure to keep them on a steady light of 24h to grow all day. with a big enough pot that the roots do not have to start to ball up. a month or two indoors will increase your odds tenfold when it comes time to put them out.

No man, I appreciate all the info you gave me, I'll have to check into my climate a little more in detail, I just said Midwest as a general location without getting too detailed, I will post some more detailed climate info in the near future, thanks for all the info
