Need clearification on peak harvesting

I understand that the pistols change color just like the trichomes but are not the source to tell if the plant is at its peak harvest. I believe you have to look at the resin glands (Trichomes) to see if they are clear, milky or amber.

where are the trichomes located on the plant/bud?

Can I see them with the naked eye?

If I cant see them with the naked eye and dont have a microscope, how do i judge if they reached peakness?

The argument I hear so much is that you judge how done the buds are solely by what color the trichomes are. I think it is more of a whole collection of things to look for, the color of the pistils, if the calyxes have started to swell and the pistils recede and the trichomes. The trichomes are the crystaline formations on the flowers and leaves of the plant.
