ok i bought a 1000w light used on craigslist.when i turn it on once it gets real hot it has a burning smell to it.not a bad one but i have to get close to the bulb to notice it. what could it be?
need help asap LIGHT is SMELLING

Probably unplug it before you clean it too.

ok well i just talked to the guy and he said it sat for a year so im guessing its dust. so the smell should go away after a while right?should i use and fluids to clean it?

No fluids,just a nice soft rag and don't touch it anymore lol.

yeah dont want oils on the bulb... it might blow out

Clean the bulb with a rag u never ever touch a bulb with your bare hands, always use a rag even when you screw it in

i talked to the guy that i bought it from and he said it sat for like a year so its probably just the dust burning off. just as if i were to turn my heaTer on after the summer and it burns all the dust off. this sound reasonable?

possible if the smell is coming from the bulb and not the ballast.. If it's the ballast it might be fried.. If it's coming from the bulb then it might be dirty or getting ready to burn out..

probably not you should go invest 40-60 bucks and set yourself up a cheap CFL's setup that puts out about 13,000 lumens

Exactly. the smell is because of the dust. clean the bulb and any other areas you can get into.

ok i cleaned the bulb and it still stinks and i KNOW FOR SURE ITS THE BULB so should i worry?whats the worst that can happen?it just blows 0ut?
