Can I run a plug in breaker box to a 220v dryer outlet to use the power for my lights? so it would be a breaker box plugged into the outlet with 110 outlets on panel.

We used something like this at my last job but not sure how exactly it works.

thanks guys!!

hazefeen,
It's designed to be a "temporary" distribution box at a construction site. That's what the temporary means. If it can handle a crew of guys running power tools from it...out in the sun all day, it certainly can handle a grow room. lol

A 20 amp circuit is a 20 amp circuit...and that unit has plenty. Only thing I'm personally thinking of adding is a GFI breaker at the supply box.

You can do it. Make sure that all wires are properly sized and the overload protection is correct to the circuit. A common dryer circuit, in the USA, is 30 amps at 240 volts, so keep that in mind. Done properly, there is no excess risk to what you are considering, just make sure to pay attention to the details.

why not just hard wire the dryer outlet to a light controller. you can get them for as cheap as $200 and they come with 120 or 240v outlets; some have built in timers and ammeters. you can even get them with double triggers. sizes range from 30amps to 60amps for the smaller versions. check out the powerbox ones. I use them cause they are a little more sturdy and have all the bells and whistles.
