need help in chossing system for growing veg.

i would like to grow veg. on my roof and wanted to know whats the best way to grow veg. beside soil/coco
i wached a clip about growing with hydro in a leveled long tubes and hydroton.

it looks interesting but i want to know if the taste of the veg. is ok or its damaged by the nuts we use in hydro
im a newbie in growing veg. and realy need help with a system and tips

I have grown mints in soil and hydro giving them the same feed and every thing and I find that hydro grown taste better.

i keep thinking using CFL for veg will help and then flower in hps. my leaves get bleached even from 3 feet up. hps is good for heat, and flower of anything. CFL is less harsh on plants. organic everything its allot less hazel.

Im growing in my own built ebb and flow system. Lettuce only took 30 days from seed to harvest. Pretty crazy results. Not outside mind you but hydro will go faster
