Are you lighting up the whole room or just 12 plants? I'm not being a dill hole but when the pro's chime in and answer thats the stuff they need to know and what kind of lights your using? Peace

Its not about the number of plants but the size of the grow area, meaning the area you want to light. If 12 plants means 12 sq ft, you will want perhaps 3000 lumens per sq ft in veg and 5000 in flower. That means you multiply those by 12 to get the lumens your light system needs to produce.

Am gonna be lighting up a 5 x 5 grow tent and am probaly gonna be using a 400 hps or a 430 hps dont know yet thats why I was asking.

No sense in growing 12 plants.. maybe half that.. just top them.. you'll get some phat buds.

I wanna go to HPS on my next grow. This is my first grow so Im sticking to CFL's till I get a little more experience under my belt.

it all depends on the characteristics of the strain you choose. you should be fine with a 400w but your going to have to vent that tent.
