Need help on checking trichomes...

Hello all, ive been trying to check my trichomes for the past few days but haven't really been able to. I have 2 "scopes". One that is 30x-60x and the other is 60x-120x.

The smaller one, i can see clearly but its nowhere near "large" enough to see the trichomes..they are still pretty small.

And the Larger one, I can never get it to focus, no matter what i do. I have brief moments where i can see clearly but i can never hold the scope PERFECTLY still and its mainly blurry. Because thats apparently what it needs, sniper steady hands... the SLIGHTEST movement just screws it up.

Anyone have any advice on what to do? Here's a picture on what scopes i have. (below)

It's definitely tough till you get the hang of what you're looking for. And it's best to check them with the grow light off, they all look amber under a HPS. You may have to snip off a bit of plant mater to get a good look. But the only problem with that is that the trichomes on the sugar leafs are typically subjected to us touching them which ruptures the glands and causes oxidization. Do you have a phone with a decent camera? Usually you can just flip off the grow light and fans, and flip on a natural light, get really close and zoom in as much as you can without it pixilating and snap several pics. Flip through the pics, zooming in on each one, and find the clearest one and see what they look like.

I use a sony a-230 dslr camera capable of some pretty good macro shots. Uploaded to the computer and zoomed in as much as I can, and I'm in a forest of trics.

If you can post some pics, we all love bud porn, and there's lots of helpfully growers here willing to offer their experience.

Right dtl420. My camera takes amazing pictures. Most newer cell phones do.

And boy is it hard to keep a 60+, 100+ or more focused. Practice makes perfect. When i started it was with a 10X magnifying glass. FYI, learn from me that's not enough. As dtl420 said, cut off a leaf up top that you would cut anyway. Put it on a solid surface and you should be able to slow the moving.

Lastly, trichomes are not the absolute end all answer. Very informative, but not the only way to judge if it's ready or not.

Awesome, thanks for the reply man! Ill try to take a few good pics to upload :) Ill try some natural light or just check them at lights out. I didnt know that with the HPS light. Thanks again!

This is a good microscope I use it plugs right into my cellphone with the usb dongle that comes with it. For reference it’s a note 8. But for 20 bucks this thing is pretty awesome.

I was noticing that. I was sitting here talking to a buddy and had your picture pulled up zooming in on it. Is that piece of plant matter still on the plant, or are you able to just hold the microscope and get that clear of an image?
