After 2 years smoking I usualy smoke 2-3 grams a day and where I live its 15 pound a gram so I thought why not try grow my own plant/s to save a little money.

I am only looking to grow one plant at the moment to see how well it will work out for me.

I am wondering if anyone can help me get started by letting me now what I need to get to start my growing etc.

Thank you.

Welcome to RIU! There's a ton of information here, and the first thing you need to do is read all the stickies in the General Growing room, the Newbie room and the Grow Room Design and Set Up room.

That will give you a basic understanding of what you're going to need to do, and you can ask specific questions from there.

Good luck!

Best of luck. Someone will be along shortly to help you out. One thing though, when someone does respond don't bring up Jessy's wedding, Tom and Becky's foreclose, or the Rash.

First, do research. It's all here, and on various sites.

Second, start with something simple, like say a hempy bucket, dirt, whatever.

Third, grow something else with your cannabis. Basil, peppers, whatever. As a n00b, I found it helpful to be able to observe a variety of plants throughout their development, and if you mess up your basil, or whatever, it's not going to cost you as much as your cannabis. By making these observations, it will help you understand what the plant is "telling" you, regarding watering and food.

Lastly, you can do it, it's not rocket science, and if I can grow something, YOU sure as fuck can.

Luck.

I would recommend finding one comprehensive book on growing and follow a basic plan. This site is great but you will get so many different opinions relating to so many different grow techniques that it may be hard to put it all together into a cohesive plan. I can't recommend any particular starter books but there are a lot out there. Maybe put up a post asking for favorite grow books for beginners?

OP - a great book is the Cannabis Grow Bible, available on Amazon. It's straight info that has never steered me wrong. Sometimes the book gave me a choice of options, and then I'd run them plus my thinking by the folks here.

It all depends on your space and budget. If your on a low space low budget, go with a small CFL grow. If you can afford a few hundred bucks, go get an LED light. Figure out how much space u have and work from there.

Like the others said read....then read more...then read more...etc, etc. knowledge is irreplaceable. Also DO get a good guide or 3... Look for names like Rosenthal and Cervantes. Solid, proven practices. Reading the stickies is a good idea also, because the monitors make sure they are good info. When you are reading the forums, you need to understand that a lot of the opinions stated are from over inflated egos that think they know it all based on other peoples ideas. Look for posts from old timers with a lot of posts, but also realize that the number of a members posts might just mean they are busy in the toke and talk threads all the time and not growing much. Good luck, it really isn't that tough. Peace & be kind.

Nothing like smoking the pot you grow yourself as it will be above average, but warning "growing is additive"

There is a lot to learn, but I always say that the most important first step is buying good seeds from a trusted vendor.
If you only want to grow one plant, you would be wise to but fem seeds to ensure the desired gender
