And as far as a pound on 4 plants. Unless you are planning on vegging those things for 3 months, i dont think your gonna come close to a pound on your first grow using a 600 watt hps with only 4 plants. I veg for between 3-4 weeks under a 6 bulb 4 foot t5, then switch to 2 1000 watt hps (only running one right now), and I get around an ounce per plant. Occasionally when I let them veg for longer(2-3 months), or throw a mother into flower, I will get a QP from a plant in a 5 gallon container, but rarely will I veg them that long. I make up for it by adding more plants. And with each 1000 watt hps, I only pull about a pound-a pound and a half every month and a half or so.

the 600w would give much more efficiency in growing, it is worth it. If I was short on money, I would invest in a good bulb and GENETICS. don't grow bagseeds to save some money. you can get away with using some old planting pots or used jugs, plastic containers or anything to fill up your growing medium, save money by handwatering etc... but don't go cheap on light and genetics. you could find a strong oscillating fan from your home and make a DIY job to transform it into an exhaust fan, and you can use carton, old wood and matt white paint to build a grow cab with same results as if you had a neat ready made cab, but you cannot grow good weed out of bad genetics or under poor light and photosynthesis. there are places where you can save money, and places where the investment pays off. I also advise you to save more money for more equipment in the future like a dehumidifier in late flowering, if you have big buds and humidity, you would need it to prevent mold. dont go into expensive medium and setup either, just get good light, good genetics, good ventilation, good nutrients which are cheap if you know what to buy, and you will get yourself a decent harvest from it. later, you can add more equipment to make your life easier, like automatic feeding, hydro setup or whatever...
There is nothing wrong with bagseed.

Hell if buying dimmable buy a 1000 watt system. Guaranteed in no time you'll be using it and wishing for more. Maybe not in that tent but you'll be dreaming bigger before the first ones ever flower. Run with the big dogs or pee like a puppy.
Lol, what? His budget is $500 and you people are trying to get him to spend $500 on a light...what the hell is wrong with you.

What size tent do I need for about 4 plants? As of now I think I'll go with the same size and probaly a 400 watt system.
Dude the tent you were looking at is fine, 55"x55"x79", the guy that said that is less than 2x2 is retarded. 55" is 5" short of 5 feet. 5'x5' is 25 square feet, you can easily fit 4 plants in there, and since you are doing dirt, it should be very manageable with a 400W HPS.

No a 600 isn't too big at all. The tent is 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 feet. I would run a 1000 watt in that tent. I run two 1000's in a 4x8 tent. Look on amazon for a smaller tent 3x3 for half the money if you want to stick with a 400. You don't need a mh and an hps. Stick with the hps for now it'll veg plants just fine, I've done it for years. You can get a conversion bulb later.

So here's a list to get you started for short money.
3x3 tent. $100 on amazon
400 watt light htg supply $120 with a bulb
4" fan and filter about $150
a few small clip fans at Walmart $ 10 each

Use the rest for soil and seeds soil and pots.
You can do it for 500 if you stick to the basics

Good luck
Best post in this thread so far.

I've got a room I could use so I figure I'll buy the 600 watt hps and weather strip the door so it's airtight.
I'll be hoping on yielding about a pound over 4 plants.
Let me know what you guys think.
So now you are going without the tent and are wanting to pull a pound off a 600W? 448 grams which means you are hitting .75g/watt, which means each plant needs to be at least 4oz dried, I say a rather large task ahead of you especially with dirt.

A month veg, 2 1000W HPS, and you are pulling 1 ounce per plant? That seems a bit low...how many plants are you running, and was the 1 ounce number for both lights when they're running or just the 1/1000W? I mean to hit your yield at 1 ounce a plant for 2/1000W HPS @ .5g/watt would be 35 plants, are you in dirt?

I was really only aiming for 12 ounces but I rounded to a pound cause I'm high and like to set high goals for myself! Lol!
In growing in the room I wouldn't need to do anything but airtight the door and buy a light.
I plan on vegging them for 2 months and topping them to get 4 main colas.
Also how many plants can I fit under a 600 watt hps?

A 600W HPS has a footprint of 4'x4' for optimal growth. If you are going to veg your plants for 2 months, you probably won't fit many under the light, probably 4 - 6.

Above is a link to a prezi presentation that I have been working on along with researching the most cost efficient and simplest way to grow some great buds. I am looking for feedback on ways that I can improve this system either by cutting costs or making small investments that will produce greater yields.

Let me know how you do. Good luck
