Need help planning a grow room in a garage

I'm gunna build a grow room going for a 5Wx10Lx8H room

I'll be using 3-4k setup using big kahuna or 6" blockbuster as they are cheaper right now

this will be a soil grow using general organic nutes

I'm not sure how many plants I can fit or how to set up the ventilation

I have no co2 at the moment so it won't be sealed and I usually grow bushes bending the main stem into a spiral around the pot during veg

Any advice is appreciated

Plan on paper first. Draw out all these systems first. Electric, water plumbing/drainage, exhaust fan/filter combo, plant placement, cooling/heating, future expansion/co2. Build the room as if it going to be sealed. You will do a better job. Then cut holes you need later. Many people get a a 6" fan/charcoal filter combo plus ducting. Go 8" if you have the cash to spend. Get a good dehumidifier.

I also vote on the 8" blower. A 6" would work but the 8" is so much more and really moves the air through the space. What's the price difference? $30-40 bucks? That's 3 grams of weed worth of equipment...

On the size of space. Plan on three or four fans. Desktop or clip on. Put a fan at all four corners. Make sure there is no stale spots in the space. Including areas around the pots to the tops of the plants. Don't skimp on air circulation or air ventilation. Make sure they get all they need to breathe.

I have a inline 6 I was thinking using that for fresh air and a 10-12 for heat but you guys are saying 8 so is it bad to over kill that ?

How to explain it....6" works perfect. 8" is turbocharged. As a car ad would put it. 'More Refinement'.

If ever the room gets hot because of a slight design snafu. You can crank the 8" to full speed. Emergency type capability. I use a 8" on a 2x4 tent on the lowest speed. In my situation it cannot stink. No choice. A 6" would work and has worked but it left a smell to the outside room. An 8"solved that issue plus some.

You want around 3-5 minute room air exchanges. You're room is 400cuft. I'd look for something around 300-500cfm, and run it at 50% with a temp override speed controller. Try to have the fresh air come in at floor level, hot air out at the top.

I'd run the largest fan you can, within any limitations you have, on the lights. Just be aware a big fan on smaller ducting can be loud.

A couple desk fans on the floor, a couple pedestal fans, a couple clip ons to move around for dead spots.

Keep as much of the electric up of the floor as possible. A good rule is electric above waist level, water below.

I agree to build it as if it was a sealed room from the beginning. If you do it now, it'll be easier than if you decide to later. Then cut holes as needed, it's easy to reseal at that point if you want to run A.C. or CO2 in the future.

Use 2x8s stood on edge for baseboards when you frame. Then get a piece of vinyl flooring cut oversized and run it up the 2x8 baseboards, then caulked it all up, to make the whole floor a catch basin in case of leaks.

Squares with the F are fans
Highlighted area is room
Dots are inline fans
Black line is ducting

Each square is a foot I have each light covering a 4x4 are with 2 ft in in the middle for walking around and stuff

This is the general setup I was thinking

First off 1000w will cover a 4x4 very well and can be pushed to 5x5 if needed although less effective in 5x5.

The width of your room is 5 foot. That will seriously suck to work in once you have a 4x4 canopy. I would suggest at least a foot on each side so you can work. For 3000w I'd do 6' x 14'. 4000w I'd do at least 10x10.

For an exhaust I'd go for a 10 or 12" on a scrubber with a passive intake. I used to run 4000 watts in exactly this manner with a ton of success.

and forget desk fans, this isn't a small tent grow. Get 4 wall mounted fans and then a box fan or two to move air on the floor.

If you don't mind me askn but how many plants were you growing

one plant per square foot of canopy... pure outlaw growing.
working under med/rec laws, I'd suggest something like 4 plants per 1000w utilizing 7 gallon pots. Seems to be a good balance between veg time and plant counts.
