hey guys havent posted in a while im doing a new grow room upstairs and i have 2 1000 watt hps and a 4x8 tray for flowering. i bought the 100 gallon rez filled it all the way up, went to test my system and notice the floor is wet.... peek around the back and a hair sized cracked busted out of the bottom. short version it was crisis mode and i was bucketing out gallons of water into my bath tub.

i am renting so i cant afford shit like this to happen so i wanna figure out a way to feel a little safer with a 100 gallon rez. any ideas to reinforce it? i thought maybe get some heavy plastic sheeting and wrap around it like a water bed but idk
thanks

To repair your current res:

You can buy food 'solid-liquid' contact safe cement/glue. (easiest option, breakdown theoretically could leach all the way into plants, but being non-toxic will not cause any health concerns.)

Fill the crack with it inside and out with the stuff, wipe off excess, allow to throughly dry.

As for reinforcing, I don't know if it'd be necessary now that the res. is in a permanent spot, a crack like that more than likely came from poor/rough handling in transport.

Depending on the type of plastic, it may be un-repairable. Polyethelene, for example, cannot be reliably glued...repairs are friction welded. Depending on the exact location of the frature, 100 gallons could be placing great strain on the repair...like 800lbs! Given what is at stake, I would spring for a new res. If you do chance a repair, line the entire inside of the res with a membrane. The cheapest would be several layers of 4+ mil plastic sheeting. A water bed mattress would be better, but a new res wouldn't cost that much more. I don't believe in taking any chances with potential security issues.

thnks guys i dont think i mentioned but im getting a new rez i got store credit from the place i bought the broken one. i think reinforcing this new one by wraping a water bed mattress around the sides would be a pretty good idea. that way if i got a leak it wouldn't ruin the carpet/ceiling

open up or cut the top of the tank, and line the inside of the tank with plastic sheet, if its thick plastic like visqueen, or pond liner its ok, if its thin plastic then do two layers, fold it over the edge toward the outside all the way round at the top then use strong aluminium tape to stick it to the outside of the tank all the way round making sure it is quite loose at the bottom corners of the tank ( enough space) . then fill with water.

do you need a 100 gallon res for a 4x8 or could you use something smaller and simply have to fill it up more often? maybe a 70 gallon
