doesnt look like enough of a canopy to block light to the lower branches so i would say no dont chop them.

and defoliating mid flower is a bad idea in general.
I'd back off the N a bit and clean the bottom up a bit, buds and all. I always prefer larger top buds and fewer popcorn buds at the bottom. So far though you are looking good.
This is where im at after triming some of the leafs where huge.

well its only 3 weeks into flower so i guess defoliating wont be too bad. What size light are you using? if its a 600watt hps or larger the lower buds should get a decent size.
