yo, HOW do you grow in soil, there.
theres no fucking way i/u can grow in soil, period. the roots don't get enough oxygen and at the end the roots are always too small and bad color looking. the last plant i did i cut 3 weeks into flower cos i knew the roots were too squashed and without air space in the soil. ive tried mixing it with cellmax as well still get no air to roots. so i'm going hydroponic, anyone who can grow in soil is a seriously good gardener.

are u serious man? you are doing something wrong if you are even looking at the roots. You dont have to do anything with soil growing. It's that simple. Plant the thing and water it every few days.

nah man, im serious, the roots like really thin and stringy and browny coloured. i have dug up plants through all stages of flower and this is what happens , the only time they look alright is when they are still growing through veg

im just thinking coz if ya repot it b4 it goes into flower in a bigger pot it will gibe the girls a chance to strech its roots more an plus it might give them some more oxygen

Transplanting has nothing to do with plant health,i grow from veg all the way through the entire flowering period in 3.5 quart pots which is less than one gallon, plants being rootbound causing health problems is complete bullshit,a plants root system only need be large enough to deliever water & nutrients that the plant needs & no larger.

If your getting brown roots in a soil grow it is from lack of oxygen,no doubt about it,the main things that cause lack of oxygen in soil grows are having the soil in a constantly wet state,if it never drys out the plant cant breathe ,another reason is from compacted soil, and even another reason is from watering with water that has sat too long & becomes stagnated, yet another reason is too many amendments in the soil that retain water like peat moss,in large volumes it stays wet for long periods.

The over watering can be easily corrected by using much smaller pots, the whole 1 gallon pot for every month the plant is going to be alive is pure bullshit & causes more harm than good with new soil growers,i like my pots small enough(less than 1 gallon) where they need to be watered every other day when they are in veg & every day when they are in heavy bud, watering brings fresh oxygen to the plant.

Compacted soil can be corrected using perlite, not to be confused with vermiculite, perlite does not retain water & it keeps the soil loose so it can drain & breathe, adding masons sand to the soil helps alot as well just be sure not to use beach sand as it will kill your plants, vermiculite retains water leaving the soil moist for longer periods, even though it helps loosen the soil its not the best choice because of water retention,be sure to add atleast 20% perlite to the soil.

If your water sits too long before watering the plants it can become stagnant, much like a fish tank where the pump goes down the oxygen is depleted in the water, this can be corrected by adding an air stone to the water resivior if the water is going to sit for several days, adding small amounts of hydrogen peroxide also helps add oxygen to the water.

Having a loose soil mix that drains very good & drys out quickly should solve your problems.

Make sure everything in relation to the roots is right... soil/potsize/nute balance/additives etc. Don't blame it on the method, blame it on the individual components of your shitty grow... it has to be extremely shit for the roots to be messed up so they probably fine!

Nice 1 panhead.. I learned a little there!..

thanks peeps i dont doubt it at all i just cant grow decent weed. using water thats sat around was the only thing that rung a bell - but i thought you had to leave it out for 24hrs for the chlorine to come off? other than that i will have to keep my thoughts to myself...................................................................peace.......................................................

Leaving water out for 24 hours is prefered to get rid of the chlorine exactly as you said,in that short time span water will not stagnate so this wasnt your problem,i was thinking a long term scenario like water laying stagnant for weeks, even then it can only contribute to other more serious oxygen problems & not totally destroy a crop.

What you have said in this thread isnt as goofy as some think, ive read where plenty of other people couldnt get soil growing down right no matter how hard they try,yet the same people master the shit out of hydro & aero like they were born with the skills.

Just keep at it till you find a growing style that you can adapt to,you'll find the style that works for you.
