Need help with tent size

4x4 is good. But if you have room for it a larger tent is easier to work in and cool. I have a 6' x 6', but usually just keep a single 400 vert in there, in a corner. Then if things get wild on me I can put in the 600 and back the girls up. Also room in there to store amendments and do potting/etc, helps keep te room clean too. :joint:

Its about right, 2 feet penetration under the canopy plus the 12-18 inches the lights have to be away from the tops is about right, after that the light isn't as useful.
Possibly true if you're talking LEDs, like those shown in your image file. But the OP's question regards an HPS. Without looking up the #s I know that 1000w HPS bulbs penetrate more than 400w HPS.

Im talking about hps, everybody knows that a 1k is better than 400 watts hps. But anyways op this is for you
Approximate fc in the sweet spot
(metered directly beneath the bulb)

Lamp Distance Foot-Candles
1000 watt HPS 1.50 foot (18 inches/45 cm) 9,000 fc
600 watt HPS 1.00 foot (12 inches/30 cm) 9,000 fc
1.50 foot (18 inches/45 cm) 5,600 fc
400 watt HPS 0.75 foot (9 inches/23 cm) 9,000 fc
1.50 foot (18 inches/45 cm) 4,000 fc
250 watt HPS 0.58 foot (7 inches/18 cm) 9,000 fc
1.50 foot (18 inches/45 cm) 2,800 fc

Highlighted items approximate the closest distance that particular lamp should be to the sweet spot to avoid over-lighting. (those interested in photosynthetic radiation can use this PPF PAR converter.)

Hell, perhaps you're right but I don't think so.

Check this chart. Optimal distances (@ 5000-60000 FC) for 400's are 5-18" (13" depth) and 9-31" (23" depth) for 1000. That's almost twice the depth right? Granted its a MH but I assume similar to the HPS. This supports my experience, as I've grown larger plants under 600s than 400s or T5s.
