Need some advice, almost harvest time

Hello to everyone. I am approximately one week from harvest time. I have read and heard that if I give my plants ice water on the last watering it will stress the plant in producing more THC, also if I leave my plants in complete darkness for the last 2 or 3 days again it will produce more THC. Is there any truth to this? Thanks

i dont know about the ice water but stressing the plant does sometymes indeed make it produce more thc n i dont know about 2 or 3 days of darkness never tried it but i do know only giving the photo plants on a 10hr light 14 hr darkness helps it rippens faster plus there r other ways of stressing your plant besides ice water

All BS. I've done the ice water I've done the darkness, neither do anything positive for yield or potency.

As for the ice water IDK, sounds silly.

As for darkness here is what Serapis on here said once "Here is the deal, as I read it. The plant needs sugars and starches when it photosynthesizes. At night, those compounds travel back down to the roots where they are stored until the next day. If you allow all of the starches and sugars to drain back down to roots, and then chop the plant before it sees light again, technically, you are drastically reducing the amount of sugars and starches that need to be broken down in the curing process. This results in a smoother smoke, much faster than a traditional day time harvest."

Here is another piece I found on darkness-"

I decided to harvest three identical plants, all grown in the same room, at different times throughout the room’s light cycle. The first plant was harvested right before the light cycle occurred. The second was harvested right after the light cycle finished. The final plant was moved to a completely dark, temperature and humidity controlled room where it sat for 48 hours and was then harvested.
There was no noticeable difference in cannabinoid potency. We tested three samples from each plant and averaged the results of each plant to compare to one another. The results were virtually identical. There was no difference in potency in relation to the time at which the plants were harvested. Since machines are not always accurate, we also provided a few patients with blind samples to see if they noticed any differences in the samples. No differences were noted.
It is true that resin production on a medical marijuana plant peaks during the dark cycle. Because of this fact, there has been a myth perpetuated that cannabis harvested right before the light cycle begins — or cannabis given 24-72 hours of dark before harvesting — will produce a higher potency medicine than medical cannabis harvested during the light cycle. The problem with this theory is that a typical medical marijuana plant has a blooming period of about 50-60 days. When the overall time of the blooming cycle is taken into consideration, an additional day or two is pretty insignificant. The essential oils and resins are not produced overnight but instead are steadily built up over the entire blooming process. The number of cannabinoids degraded in one light cycle is completely negligible when comparing potency of the final product."

But experience is the best advice and from mine both these are myths, and unfortunately even some seasoned growers like subcool believe in this nonsense. Try it, compare, make your own opinion.

I agree with Rancho but I would like to add to it. I cool my room to about 60 max in my last 10 days of flowering. If you understand the life of the plant this will make sense to you. MJ is an annual which means it grows during its life cycle for the purpose of seeding and pollinating others. We manipulate the lights to "change seasons" and put the plant through its life cycle at our whim. The resins (trichomes) only job in nature is to catch pollen. When you cool the room down it makes the plant believe winter is coming. Since the plant was never pollinated (due to being all females) the hormones will increase to make more resins in order to catch some pollen and complete the life cycle of the plants.

I've also heard from old timers that you can shove a 9penny nail through the base of the stalk a day or two before harvest to get it to produce more THC...
I don't know..I tried it once... didnt seem to do much... but my plant was pretty crappy anyway....

I may attempt some of those methods in the future... but I would guess that a good seed strain and the right nutrient/light schedule and variables are the best way to get the dank nuggs...

I know nothing about ice water, but here is why you should do a dark rest. Depending on the time of day, the plants vascular system trasports sugars and nutrients up and down the plant. During the day time the plant moves most of the sugars and nutrients up into the leaves, stems, and flowers. At night most of those same sugars and nutrients move down into the roots, where most night time activity takes place. The idea with a 24-48 hour rest is, it takes longer than the 12 hours between light cycles for the sugars to completely migrate up and down the vascular system of the plant. So in conclusion, the reason to do a dark rest for plants is not to increase resin production or boost thc. By trapping as much of the remaining sugars and nutrients in the root system, you will end up with a tastier and more aromatic final product. It should be noted, that this technique will only produce noticeable results if you do a good cure on your flowers, if you are just gonna get them dry and sell them, then don't bother. But if you are willing to do a slow cure, and want to produce some of the tastiest and most fragrant flowers, then give it a try.

in hydro system then just feed water for last 5/7 days, but only if you think that you cant push them any more i leave them till there bursting then add water.

soil grows i would defo give water for 7 days i used to take them to the bath and push has much water has i can through the soil via a shower head till the run of is clean then leave em in bath till run of stops back in the grow room and let dry out.:leaf:

if its a 8 week strain let it go 1/2 week more if its a 9 week strain then let it run two weeks more the amount will be far more then cropping early.
