Need some quick advice about harvesting early

So here is the deal, my outdoor crop is almost good to go, well all but one strain. Two of my strains are one to two weeks away from harvest. I just started noticing a few amber trichs moving in to most areas I have checked. But this isn't 'are my plants ready' thread, I've grown these strains, I know they're a week or two out.

My question is; should I harvest them right now early?

Why? Because my area had some pretty bad rain recently and I had a little bit of bud rot. Nothing really unusual after a week of rain, but it was there regardless. The forecast this coming was supposed to be sunshine....fucking idiots now say unseasonal and unprecedented rain for almost a week. So I'm now in a pickle. Should I harvest a bit early, or hope for the best? I may not see the sun for the next two weeks.

So anyone with any insight here? I'm in the Pacific Northwest if anyone wonders.

Thanks all:leaf:

Btw, the strain that's not close will not be harvested. It's not susceptible to bud rot like the other two anyways.

If meteorologists in this country were paid based upon accuracy, most would filing for bankruptcy within 3 months. I have to come to hate the NOAA with a passion due to this.

I would wait it out, and check plants often...your latest forecast is probably overblown.

Nothing wrong with taking a sample nug and giving it a quick dry. Test for potency and effect. That's what I do. I use a mini convection oven (basically a toaster oven with an internal fan) set to 140F. Fast dry ~10-15 minutes. It'll ruin the terpenoids so smell and flavor will be trashed, but at least you'll get a good idea as to where your cannabinoid profile is.

Well I understand that meteorologists are nothing but paid guessers. I see them with chicken bones and rats blood but relying on a magic eight ball.

But anyways this is the pacnw. And one thing we can have is long bouts of rain. And one thing our weathermen are good at predicting is is when rain is likely in the next 24hours.

Anyways we haven't dried out from our last rain bout. Just three days of partial sun and partial dry. No way in hell I want to harvest wet. That would be a disaster. So my chances of catching a few days of sun for a harvest look very bleak right now.

is it a guerrilla grow or in ur back yard? is a carport or tarp at ur disposal? or would
this draw to much attention in ur situation? i would try to get a tarp
out there over it and let them go their course. if not that.
the other 2 suggestions of takiing a sample nug to see how the meds would be
and just checking on ur ladies each day with the rain.

Ambe I thank you for the reply but how does shading my plants with a tarp become a smart idea:-P, they will be sun starved enough with the cloud cover.

Seriously though..Yes it's a legal medical grow in my backyard. I do have green screen and the thought of using that went through my mind, but it's 7 inches predicted just for tomorrow. So the green screen really won't do enough. Also these are ten foot tall plants so bagging them in clear plastic is also out. Meant to mention that earlier.

As for the potency, I'm almost 100% sure one strain I'm harvesting. It actually loses potency when you let it go too long. I guess I'm just trying to figure out the third strain, Chuckys Bride. I have grown it indoors but first time outside.

thats why i also suggested the Carport. this will cover and effectively prevent ur plants from getting wet during
the rain and only has a 20% reduction in ur natural light. seems like a 20% reduction would suffice in ur situation
since ur plan b is to yank them.

u can get a carport @ home depot for like 100-140$ or try craiglist. good luck sir

Dig them up and bring inside...kidding of course.

Looking at a random forecast for your area, I'd say leaving them out probably won't do much good...I'd chop before the rain hits.

Yep it is looking very grim for sure. I will probably be chopping today. I was hoping to get someone saying they have chopped early and no biggie  Its funny as a community we are so adverse to the idea of taking them too early and its treated as a sin....I'm never that way with my tomatoes :-P

Mother nature you are a cruel bitch!

Looks like you have a window between the first and second low pressure wave, yet the second is much stronger. If it wasn't for the mold issues out there, I'd say ride it out.

We have generally dry Septembers here, but you all have the same issue year after year...mine as well be growing in England.

My Falls are generally dry, but I still run straight indica dom outdoors b/c it finished a week ago. Plus it is not very leafy and the structure can withstand high winds during flower much better than sativa doms(which I only do indoors).

Best wishes on the early chop.:peace:

Yeah Sun thanks. Believe it or not all mine are also indica dominant except for the Chuckys which is a "7-8 week" finishing hybrid sativa dom. Inside I take it to 9. I just had these vegging for two months indoors before I sent them outside this summer.

I just went out to double check and except for one minor occurrence, all the bud rot I had to deal with after last weeks rain was on the chuckys, and just one of the three I have going. So im gonna just chop them down except for my JB which needs a few more weeks minimum and is not negatively affected by the rain.

FUCK I didnt want to do this today. Thanks monsoon devil.

Get some clear plastic in rolls, should be cheap, in the painting section of Home Depot. Then build a temporary tent for them. This way they get the sun, plus you can keep excess rain off of em. Good luck to ya.
