negatives of premature weed

I know the highs can be different when comparing premature weed to the finished product. I wonder why it is different though. At week 4 I pulled a nug dried it and smoked. It got me high but what was different about the high was that it kept me up at night. Has anyone experienced smoking premature nugs that had a negative effect like this? thanks.

Your answer.
In short, older trichomes have more chemicals build up as it ages.
Thus different "effect".

pretty sure that's not true.

they go amber because they have degraded to my knowledge. This is illustrated by the RAPID change from cloudy to amber under high-energy light (blue end of the spectrum), because the conversion to heat when the light is absorbed by the trichs (rather than passing through, when the trichs were clear) "cooks" the trichromes.

You see this effect under blue LEDs. compared to underneath red or white LED, the trichs seem to go amber (but not cloudy) much more rapidly.

Can premature nugs cause insomnia? Because that would explain the energetic rushy high, coz the strain I smoke (blue blood) is labeled an insomnia killer. Well smoking it thus far this early, the chemical buildup that takes place in the later stages of flowering, hasn't fully occurred. And I was feeling like an insomniac. I'm pretty sure though once she's done it's going to replace my ZzzQuil as a sleep aid medication. :blsmoke:

That chart is misleading at best.

Harvesting when the stalked trichomes are full and cloudy is peak THC production. That is when you want to harvest. You dont manipulate the high by trichome color.

The reason people wait for amber is because it signifies that the plant has maxed production of trichomes. That means that there will be the highest concentration of milky stalked trichs. They arent looking to get a "couchlock" effect.

If you want a "couchlock" high, get a potent strain high in CBN. If you want an "energetic" high, get a sativa or sativa dominant hybrid with those traits. Either way, harvest when the plant is ready.

Early harvested buds produce quick head highs because the psychoactive chemicals in the plant have not had time to mature and reach maximum potency.

The first thing you need to know is that there are 3 "states" in a trichomes development.

The first state is clear. Clear trichomes contain precursor cannabinoids (cannabinoids are the different substances in cannabis).
These precursor cannabinoids are not psychoactive (they do not produce a 'high') yet and harvesting clear trichomes will not give you a proper harvest.

The second state is cloudy/milky. Cloudy trichomes contain fully realized THC (the by far main contributing substance in any cannabis high).
You want to get as close to 100% cloudy trichomes @ harvest to get the most potency out of your plant. It's impossible to get 100% cloudy trichomes, since trichomes are always being produced and are always maturing, even after harvest the trichomes will continue to develop.

The third state is amber. Amber trichomes contain degraded THC --> CBN. CBN represents a loss of 90% potency (from THC).
CBN is not desirable in any harvest, since it not only represents a huge loss of potency but research into the substance has also shown that CBN does not produce a high like THC does, CBN produces a more sickly feeling not a true high.

Understanding the difference between clear - cloudy - amber trichomes is essential in getting a proper harvest with a peak potency.
