Nervous about first grow

Nice, I'm like a week or so behind you, seeds popped on 8/2. I have Blue Mystic by Nirvana going, indica dominant like your LSD, so it'll be fun to watch yours slightly ahead of mine, keep up the updates!

@KushPushK,

They look good----I suggest using a screen or tying your taller plants down----you want a flat canopy otherwise the shorter plants are just going to get shaded out and not produce much.

Also, the rule of thumb I use for removing lower fans----once the leaves are 50% spent remove----until then remove the dead parts.

Yea, you could learn to drive a car using a top fuel dragster but you may be better off with your grandma's old Ford Pinto. This is your first grow right? Think Ford Pinto.

I'd recommend Subcool's Super Soil mix in 7 gallon containers. All you have to do is water the plants. Use a plant meter to make sure you don't over water. Remember, this is coming from a guy that teaches people how to grow hydro.

Hey StinkBud,

Got a good laugh from your dragster / pinto analogy---- but I wouldn't compare bubbling buckets to a dragster and I never liked pintos and "nothing is dirtier than dirt".

Are you suggesting he move his plants to soil after investing in a chiller??????

Besides, looks like he's getting some good coaching here. The problems I foresee Is no provision for a trellis.

Hey KushpushK,

Are you still using cal mag?

They grew so fast. I was looking at getting a screen to keep them short, but can I still do that even though I am switching to bloom tomorrow? I hope that's not a stupid question lol

Yeah I admit it's a lot more complicated than I thought it would be. I had to buy a lot of extras I didn't think I needed. But now that I have everything I am starting to worry less. But yes it would have been a good idea to go soil my first grow lol

Yeah everyone has been really helpful. I really appreciate it. And I am only using a little and I haven't saw those spots anymore. But I also raised my PH to 6 and that probably helped a lot too

Hey bro----there are no "stupid" questions-----only time it's "stupid"----if you have a question but afraid to ask. Now is a good time to start training your plants while they are still easy to work with (don't let the tail wag the dog).

Next question?

how do you change your nutes? Reason I ask----it will determine your trellis design.

You could also bend the tallest branches and tie them down. I like using double sided velcro.

Glad the spots are gone because of the cal-mag or raising the ph or both?????

What kind of water are you using (tap, well, etc)? and at what ppm?

Yeah i will head to Home Depot tomorrow and make a scrog net. And i have two buckets. I fill the other bucket with tap water at 109ppm and let it sit for 2 days. When I am ready, I use the water pump to remove all the water and then I move the air pump and water cooler stuff into the new bucket with the new water. And then just move the plants to the new water. I put 800ppm last time worth of nutrients and measure my PH to 6.0. P.S I clean the water pump and other accessories before putting them in the new water

I was having issues with my res temps, so what I did was go out and buy a 5 gallon water cooler ($22) with a screw on lid, cut hole in lid so the net pot seats in there good and went with that. At first I was using frozen water bottles but they would just melt real quick and temp would be right back up. Now that I am using water cooler I can drop in one 20oz frozen water bottle in once a day and it keeps it 63-69 degrees. Just make sure if you do this to get water cooler with the flat lid and not a handle or you wont be able to cut net pot hole. I got mine at menards. You can go to menards online and find it, its the dark green one. As for feeding, I just wait till the plant is rooting out of the rock wool. Once it is, I place it in the net pot filled with hydroton and into the bubbler it goes, just make sure you keep your water level high enough that the bottom of the net pot is hanging in solution about an inch or so. Once roots are established and hanging down good you can lower water level so roots get more air. And another thing, make sure you rinse off your hydroton really good before you put your plant in it or place it in the bubbler. Make sure to get all that dust off. My first bucket water is just tap water. If you use RO water add calmag and that is all. Wait till you have a couple branches before you use any nutes. And when you start out, go easy. I was great at burning my plants trying to get instant results.

Yeah I completely agree. I probably shouldn't have done DWC my first grow. After reading post and forums it just seemed like the right thing to do. Anyways I already have all the stuff so I am going to try and push through it. I really appreciate all the help from this website. As of now my water temp stays right around 70F. I know that might be an issue so I got some hydroguard and I will Change my water once a week. My plants are a week old and they are looking good so far. My main concern it of course root rot. And my other concern is do I put Nuts in a gallon at time or do I put the nuts in all at once after the container is filled with water? But your right, I do need to stop freaking out so much. I am just so into it and I really enjoy it. It's a great hobby.
I was told to stay away from hydro first run . Got lucky and got 2/3 of a lb from my first ever rdwc

Go hard
Get your gardeners intuition fired up and you'll be away

Just an update for the people still keeping in touch. Everything looks good so far. I still have about a month left before harvest. When I bought my hydro guard it came with a little thing of overdrive. Should I use it? And how should I use it? How much and for how long?

Looks great man! I'd suggest some defoliation to get light to the lower buds. I'm a week behind you and I've been having great results with defoliating, it's going to pump my yeild up a ton over my last one where I didn't defoliate at all.

I didn't get overdrive with my order, I've never heard of it, so no comment there. As for hydrogaurd I do 2ml per gallon, I've read of people doing 5ml per gallon but that just sounds wasteful as I have perfect results with 2ml per gal.
