net pot size question

I picked up a flo-n-gro system, and it has 8" square net pots by 10" tall. That's huge in the net pot world. Is there any benefit to these large pots? And do you think I could use smaller ones without any sacrifice? I'm using hydroton with 8 sites and the 55 gal. res. that came with the system. They say the net pots are 3 gal
and the pot they fit into is 4 gal. There isn't very much space between the net pot and the pot it fits into. Just trying to get by using less hydroton every cycle. Thanks

I have used two inch but if they get big enuff it's kinda hard to support them , I'm back to the five inch for my 6-7 foot plants and it works better for the bigger plants if your growing day 3-4 foot plants two or three inch will work fine

I'm with Tone5500. You can use even the 2 inch but they will flop around when the plants get big. I use the two inch net pots all the time for my outdoor hydro garden with zero issues other than supporting the plants. I just made a big trellis.

I'd go with the 3 or 4 inch net pots like Tone was saying.

ok thanks, that 's what I was hoping to hear, those 8" square net pots hold a lot. If I can use half the hydroton
I'm gunna do it. And I was planning on scroging so that will help support the plant also.

thanks
