I considered buying a 24 oz spray bottle of Foxfarm "Don't bug me" to eradicate a SM issue. The cost was $19.99 at a local hydroponic shop.
If you look at the label, it contains the ingredients as follows:
.02% Pyrethrins
.2% Piperonyl Butoxide Technical
99.78% Other Ingredients
Wondering if I could do better, I left and went to Home Depot and found a new product on the shelves from Raid called "Earth Options" House and Garden insect killer in the same 24 oz spray bottle for $6.49. The ingredient label read identically.
Thrilled that I had found the same product for a third of the price I bought four bottles of the Raid to drench 20 infested plants two times @ about $25. I needed one more bottle to finish the job and thought there has to be a better way…
There is…
What should be bought is a product called Riptide plain and simple.
Riptide is about $100 for 64 oz but get this, Riptide 250 times stronger than the aforementioned products as it is a concentrate as opposed to being "ready-to-spray". Riptide checks in at 5% PYRETHRUM and at this concentration, to dilute to .02% like the other ready-to-use products, you would mix a half ounce (tbsp) per gallon of water!
According to my math if it is correct, you could make 128 gallons of "Don't bug me" with one 64oz container of Riptide. This is equivalent to 683 bottles of "Don't bug me" @ 24oz, which would cost you $13,653 @ $20 per bottle!!!!
Lets put this in perspective...
"Don't Bug Me" = .833 oz
"Riptide" = .006 oz
"Don't Bug Me" = 19.99 24oz
"Riptide" = .15 24oz
"Don't Bug Me" = 106.67 gal
"Riptide" = .80 gal
If you can see a flaw in my math please point it out because what Im seeing is the value @ 132:1.
This crushes even the value differential of high grade sushi tuna to a can of tuna fish.
Riptide is also sold in a 5oz size for $20 for those of you not needing so much.
