New 600w ballast smells like paint and is really really hot!!!

I bought a new 600 the other day an just turned it on for the first time...
been on for 7 hours an has a harsh paint smell now plus its so hot its crazy..
is any of this normal!!

did you make sure to peal the plastic off the reflector?

when i say its hot i mean the ballast itself..is hot as hell

magnetic ballasts get very hot, i use to run a fan on mine, i have since switched to digital & never turning back

umm not a clue mate it has ovc on the side of it..
magnetic i think!! it has igniters like my old 250 but i aint got a clue bud

if it's heavy and bulky it a magnetic one, if it's light & looks like a car amp it a digital one

Think im going to bud smells strong an the plants must hate it in there..
will wait it out for a couple days though...

check the sig guys will let you know what the plan is
