New (aspiring) grower - A few stealth questions

New grower here and putting together my room. This site and its members have provided all kinds of great info. I apologize in advance if the questions I'm posting here are answered elsewhere -- I just couldn't find them.

I'm doing a small scale stealth grow in a closet - something for personal use only. Probably only 1-2 plants. Originally I was looking at doing a space bucket, but I like the idea of being able to expand later if the hobby sticks. So I'm looking at a tent that would fit nicely in my closet. Have about 74"W x 34" D x 74" H to work with.

1. Is a tent overkill? Sounds like a space bucket would be a quick and easy operation to get off the ground, and I probably won't be expanding any time soon. My perception is that a tent is a little less DIY which is a lot of my rationale.

2. Conceptually, I think I understand the components. Need an intake fan and an exhaust fan. Carbon filter helps to get rid of the smell. Need lights mounted inside the tent. I see a lot of people talking about ventilation beyond the tent, though. I could do something like this reasonably easy, as I'm adjacent to an unfinished basement room with ductwork. Can someone help me understand the rationale? Is this primarily to mitigate the noise of the fan?

3. Can anyone recommend any strains for a newbie? Northern Lights is appealing based on what I have read so far. Again, my primary concern is stealth, but I'd also like something that is reasonably easy for a newbie to grow. My thumb is not very green yet.

4. I see many measures of lighting requirements based on square footage. Is this square footage of the growing area -- or just the area covered by flowers?

5. When it comes time to dry, can I use the same tent I used for the grow?

Yes tents are great id recomend a strain from useful seeds you willmost likely need a small dehumidifier and intake and exhaust fans carbon filter for smell and u will need an led i highly sugest a quantum board

1. IMO. Tent is probably unnessisary to begin but put some money aside if everything goes well and you will require it. Building something out of wood and pandafilm is a LOT cheaper adaptible/sturdy.

2. If smell is a concern a tent may be nessisary from the get-go. You will need to vent in/out of the closet somehow even if you are using a tent. Pull warm air out from the top and have a opening at the bottom for intake is optimal.
Fresh air is good for the plants and mainting temps by removing hot air is a must in most enviroments. Don't hoot into any active ductwork.

4. Lighting demands depends on type of lighting. I reccomend finding some CFLs around the house to start, it's cheap and simple.

5. you can dry in the same tent but i reccomend looking into cloning if things are going good and you might have a few plants ready for round 2 by the time you harvest.

Super helpful - Thank you. Quick follow-up question on ventilation: My basement stays fairly cool year round (From around 50 degrees or so in the winter to upper 60s or so in the summer). Closet would be very easy to do a simple intake at the bottom, through an outer wall and feeding from adjacent unfinished room -- and then an exhaust out the top simply feeding out into the same adjacent room. Do you think this is sufficient?

I would personally just run your exaust into your room and do the intake from the other, itll save you ducting and also wont dump ur warm air into you fesh air room. Tent is great for smell control and keeping light in and out. Id reccomend sourcing seeds from somebody who has a thread here so you can look to them and their followers for advice if you run into problems.

Got it. So, if I follow correct, maybe intake from the unfinished room through closet and into tent via duct -- and let exhaust empty into closet?

Thanks for the advice on the seeds also.

A tent with a filter in it is the best thing you can have in my opinion and I just have the ducting come back out into the basement ,never an issue

If you are just growing a single plant, you would be better off getting a small tent. Everything will be smaller and cheaper.
Exhaust, filter, light etc.
Just be aware that if you choose to go bigger you will have to buy all those items again.

its not to bad tho having an extra tent and dehumidifier for drying if you ever go larger also make sure u look up vapor pressure deficit it will help you out later

hello a few points to consider:
1. go LED boards. less space needed. less heat = less ventilation = less noise
2. is noise a problem? if so, dont buy a tent, build something from wood (alter furniture like an old cupboard). tents are loud.
3. before buying seeds, think about what effect youll want? uplifting headhigh soothing calming bodystone. and prefer smallish growing indica/hybrids for indoors.
4. try to aim for stable 25°C and 50% rH of the room

Thinking a lot about this. A lot would have to change for me to go much bigger, but I sure would hate to buy everything again. I was looking at some 2x2x4 tents which would shrink everything down a lot. I see you mentioned a 2x2. Are you able to fit 2 plants in there - or is it just right for 1?

My basement runs pretty cool year-round. Probably just about right for flowering stage from what I have read. Do LED put out enough heat to provide substantial warmth, or do you think I should look into a heat source? FWIW, I am sold on LED and have been looking at a few options. Love the idea of quantum, but that pushes my budget pretty hard.

Do LED put out enough heat to provide substantial warmth, or do you think I should look into a heat source? FWIW, I am sold on LED and have been looking at a few options. Love the idea of quantum, but that pushes my budget pretty hard.

U need hid light for sufficient heat imo, also I use both and in the summer I switch to all led
