New / Clueless grower needs tips (master kush)

I'm currently growing 5 master kush plants in a small closet with sliding doors. Inside is painted white, I have a T-5 flourescent 8 bulb 40,000 lumen light. My plants are about around 4 feet tall and I've been watering them every 3-4 days., the light hangs about 5 inches above them. All are females. I put tinfoil on the floor to help get light to the lower parts of the plants, and have each door opened about 2 inches, with a fan on low setting blowing into one side. (not sure if that's a good idea, as i'm not sure if much light gets to them when they are supposed to be sleeping). I'm currently doing 12 on 12 off, and am just starting to see small growths with yellow hairs coming out of them (believe its just starting to flower, but as I said, i'm totally clueless). Just looking for tips to help me maximize my harvest and avoid any fungus or anything else that is harmful to the plants.

well your on the right track. at nite time you need to make sure not a single bit of light gets in the room with them. also now that you have them flowering they are going to possibly double or triple in height so i hope you have a tall closet.....good luck

That's all the help I can offer without seeing what the setup looks like. However, 4 feet tall plants with a T5 Fluorescent wont grow too much. Probably not even the right color spectrum for flowering.......... Post some photos!

thanks for all the info, yeah.. couldn't afford the red bulbs, (maybe for my next grow) but right now i have my lights coming on at noon, off at midnight.. the person who gave them to me had it on a similar schedule, and didn't want to change the start time.
The fan sound ok? or should I invest in a small fan to put in the closet (its pretty packed) to blow on the plants?
A friend also suggested putting a fan inside the closet, blowing out, to reduce the humidity?
not sure, would like some more constructive criticism.
Should I try to drape a blanket over the whole closet door, and just put a fan on the inside and leave it shut all the time?

You should download a pot growing dvd first before really messing with anything. The questions you have are covered in all the FAQ's in the newbie section........ No insult intended, being honest!!

Well like kitty said you need a lot of info, more than can be put here. Having said that..here's some advice that it sounds like you need. Ok so you're on a budget? Well even so you need more light for flowering, else you're not gunna get anything, it might look pretty, but you won't have anything to smoke at the end of it. Ideally you need a HPS (High Pressure Sodium) lamp and ballast (probably 250w for you, but 400w would be better); failing that get a CFL lamp, a bit cheaper. Secondly buy some mylar reflective sheeting, it ain't that expensive but it is hundreds of times more reflective than foil or white paint. Cover every surface in the closet with it, overlap it at the gaps where light can get in from outside, use tape to seal. Thirdly, heat will be an issue if you get a HPS, so again, invest in an extractor fan to keep temp down. Lastly, most importantly, FIVE PLANTS in your closet is way too many by the sounds of it. Maybe 2 or 3 is best. Also you can't do this on a tiny budget, you gotta invest some to get some out of it. If you can do a good couple of grows the equipment pays for itself.
