New commercial grower, what are your favorites?

Hello all, my name is Scott and I am the owner of a new commercial recreational marijuana growing and processing company. Yes, I live in the state of Washington where it was recently made legal. I know that there is some debate on here whether the law that passed is good or not, and I'm not here to debate it. I just want to bring a good product to the people and make folks happy. I would love to tap your collective minds and ask for your input as to what balance of products to grow.

We are a moderate sized company looking to expand to 3000 canopy sq ft (~280 m2) within about a year for starters. My initial thoughts are to have several of the well known "standards" (Northern Lights, White Widow -- or in the White field anyway, Maui Wowie, etc.) that the average and novice consumer with recognize and relate to, but we are also planning on having numerous high-end strains, and perhaps a few specialty projects as well. The space we have will allow us different growing styles, so it isn't a concern to standardize growth conditions across all the crops. But what I am interested in is if you didn't grow your own as many of us do, what would you purchase?

What is the stash that you share with your friends vs. the stuff that's too good and you keep for yourself?

I know my own opinions on all of these, but I am but one man and perhaps not representative of the greater populace. So please, help a brother out and share what you love. All I want to do is make a top-grade product and make people happy. That is our business motto.

Buck the trend of most commercial growers and grow a lot of sativa, whether landrace or heavy sativa hybrids.
That is even a problem for those who grow themselves because of the longer flowering times and touchiness of the strains.
In the indica rich market, it does take some adjustment for smokers, but once they adjust to sativa they find that they generally prefer it over the hard-hitting indicas.
18-24 week strains wont have the turnaround that most commercial growers look for in the shorter flowering-time plants, but the demand will go up as more and more sativa is introduced/re-introduced to the market.

Kali-mist is a preferred sativa/hybrid strain.
The novelty of strains such as pure Chocolate Thai, Vietnamese Black, Panama Red, Columbian Gold, will draw interest IMO.

Alright I will throw down some choices for you, what you do with them is up to you.

Yield - Sour Diesel, Blue Dream, White Widow, Jack Herer, AK-47

Impressive - Og Kush, Girl Scout Cookies, C99

Tasty -Jillybean, Blueberry, Strawberry Cough, XJ-13, Chem Dawg

Sleepy - GDP, Girl Scout Cookies, Blue Dream (indica pheno)

Happy - C99, Vortex, Dawg's Waltz, Chernobyl

What is your go-to strain? Blue dream or my own jamaican x blueberry..great sativa up with the body warming glow of the blue berry

What is your favorite strain? Diesel..any diesel that gives that heart burn feeling..ecsd is a local favorite round here.
But my fav is the sour garlic berry variation, a chemdawg?

What is the one that you wish you had but can't find? A true roadkill skunk that you double bag vac seal and still smell it..especially that skunk that turns to burnt rubber ..shoreline perhaps

What is the stash that you share with your friends vs. the stuff that's too good and you keep for yourself?
Got a good snow cap that is supremely frosty, no odor growing it and leaves the air after smoking an astringent funk reminiscent of dryer sheets that's thick in your nose..that's one I don't share.....cheeses are loved for a similar astringent funk ( I say that loosely as obviously the cheese doesn't smell the same) but get a tolerance quick

If you didn't catch......all sativa or at least sat dom and all yield pretty nicely
Indicas have a lower ceiling and I can't ever get on my level ...but are nice sometimes...I have no experience whatsoever growing indica..

Thank you to everyone for your input so far. It seems as if my gut instinct was confirmed by you all and that Sativa strains and hybrids will comprise the majority of our crops.

There is really nothing like the og kush cuts going around Northern California or the Bay Area for that matter. Super low yields with super potent flowers. #1 on any list.

ACE or Cannabiogen Panama Red is one to add. The green pheno will yield pretty well and takes 13 weeks flower. I would try to add MEASURED UVB. If you do not measure it do not bother.

The OG's and Chems will be in demand, the clones of these will be superior to seed. Quality pure sativas will set you apart from the crowd.

I like my Classic Seeds Humboldt Purple, SAD from Sweet Seeds- which is a Black Domina pheno, those two are strong enough to compete with the usual 'Kush' whatevers.

I share my Chucky's Bride with my friends when I want to impress them.
She smells of fruity mangos, tastes sweet, and was the hit of the last party I attended.

As for what I keep for myself, the Anesthesia pheno I selected takes care of my pain, leaving me happy and functional.
She doesn't yield much, that's what I keep her all to myself.


If I may make a suggestion that I haven't seen addressed, you may want to look into strains that are high in CBD's.
Cannatonic, Dieseltonic, and Harliquin, all fetch top dollar in my area.

If you do not want to attract customers only by well-known and trendy brand names, here is a (mostly European) selection of my fav nine, based on sativa/indica ratio:

I think you've gotten some really good advice already.

If I were in your shoes, I'd grow a variety that encompasses not just 12 different strains, but a proper MENU of choices.

You'd want some indica/kush strains, some hybrid strains, some sativa/haze strains, maybe 1-2 high CBD strains for medical use, maybe a purple one (for looks), and maybe 1-2 "landrace" type sativas for connoisseur/novelty value.

Nothing at all wrong with White Widow or Northern lights, which are old standbys, but I think those are more early/mid 1990s things, and not so much what the "kids" are into today, so to speak. Starting with desirable cuts (ie "clones") of well known commercial lines isn't a bad way to go, and probably preferable in many ways to starting from seed-s.

Well you want a good sativa hybrid Mango Haze from MNS its so nice just do yourself a favor and hit the auction I got a nice discount and got 24 beans its at mrnice.nl you should see the link. Also his Super Silver Haze and Neville's Haze are both well loved and the originals I just haven't tried them yet and Mango is Shantibaba's favorite strain and he also has the original widow and her hybrids.

Whatever you grow with your commercial license, do not forget that you are growing a medicine for some who NEED it to get by on a day to day basis. Grow it well, grow it organically, and offer it at an affordable price. Don't be blinded by your inevitable profits... Respect the medical portion of the industry and defend their rights to grow for themselves.
