Yes I know how to tin...is it the good word?
I also solder but with a stick and a mask...this is soldering
I guessed everybody understand that I am lazy...lol!
Is it ok if I buy my diode on a star or do I have to do it too...please let me know!

I saw some models on digikey a few weeks ago saying they were far-red, but the datasheets still hadn't been updated...

While in a discussion with a friendly led-lamp salesman in another thread, I was going to link to him the xp-e photo red mcpcb from cutter.... well, cutter has the new cree far-red leds!!

Bro I received the solderless xpe's today. Itching to get the bar built. Would you think that thermal paste alone is sufficient to hold the diodes in place? Or maybe paste and a little kapton tape? Or I need to man up and screw em down?

I got the 6 FR emitter bars plus a few stars to soak the xcess watt , got my AL channel in hand ( the bars surface fit exactly to the size of the PCB ) & figured out how to mount my drivers
& got some knuckles to be able to aim the bars from my ceiling mounts
48" long with 14 XP's on each bar 2 bars for the room

I solder with a stick and mask too. I got mine on stars, and I am going to drill and tap for install. peace

I drill +tap+screw. you could use thermal expoxy if you don't want to remove them.
For temporary, while adjusting and testing kapton tape will work.

kapton can work, but I'm not a fan.

I purchased Mean Well MW 9~24V 700mA 16W. It hasn't been delivered yet. So i tested out my string using this old modem's power source.
Is there any issue keeping this in service on my bar??power source.jpg

if it works, probably ok to run it, but I'd test with a multimeter to see what its doing.

I am a bit confused...sorry...!
I see members with 1w diodes others with 3w diodes and even some with more watt on a star...!
I want to be sure that I get it...!
From what I understood I need coverage and not efficiency or intensity!
So what is the best way to go?
A few 1w well sprayed in my 4x4 to cover the whole space with 9 x 1w diodes(I will split it in 9 and put one over each area to have the best coverage possible! )
I want some rouge lointain too...lol!

If you have leds on basic stars you can still utilise a solderless approach

these will work on most star boards and have a clip in optic holder for Carclo optics if you want to collimate your beam

I wrote to rapid asking how to figure out the bin for these 730 xpes

They wrote back:

Full order code is XPEFAR-L1-F30-12-B-01.

Isn't f30 a chromaticity bin? I should have specified RFB.

GROUP 12 = 250/300 Min/Max RADIANT FLUX @ 350mA.
Mike @rapidled wrote back to tell me that he is working on having the bin group info posted on the info page.
