I know this was a post from a long time ago but, I just recently started to poke around on this site. I'm just curious to find out how those sativa are looking this season? Do they look like they're gonna be able to finish out?

I have one sour diesel growing in maine surrounded by 5 indica dominant strains. The sour diesel seems to be keeping up with the slower indicas that I plan on harvesting mid October if they make it that far. We'll see.

Hi all I planted 2 Frisian Dew, 2 Blueberry, 2 Blue Wizard, 2 Northern Light Blue and 2 Night Nurse. Started all indoors at the end of April. All but 1 Night Nurse have made the journey so far. This was my first venture into growing up in Northern Maine and I planted too close together...ahh live and learn. All my plants are well over 8 feet tall except for one the critters dug up and I had to replant. Already harvested one Frisian Dew...she was ready, the calyx had turned milky and several had transitioned into amber and is in the process of drying.here is some picture of my garden and several pics of what is still growing.

I got (3) Maui Wowee plants that are 9+ feet tall, about 20' diameter, and 5+ weeks into flower. All colas look strong, plants are healthy, a few bug issues ( bud worms) but I think a few sprays of Bt have helped. A little worried about upcoming rains,I just need a few more weeks, please bring sun. I did loose a good sized cola over the weekend, too much weight snapped a branch as I was looking for the varmant worms. So I got one early bird cola now drying. My first sativa outdoors grow seems good so far. Now I'm worried about bandits jumping my harvest. A lot more worries with outside grows.

Tonight into tomorrow...24-36 hours of rain.

Sunday all day into Monday...24-36 hours of rain.

Gonna be a photo finish again this season. I had all these dreams of brightly fall colored colas being pushed to the limit of what's advisable...purples and reds and yellows and oranges...what an idiot I was.

Now, again, it's looking like I'll be lucky to get them to moderately cloudy, never mind deep amber. I really did not want to he chopping bright lush green plants again this season. But that's the way it is I guess...

On a more positive note, I have found what I think might be a means to successfully growing sativas in our neck of the woods.

Of the 3 Amnesia Haze I have going, the ones in the 5 gal pots are 3 or 4 weeks ahead of the ones in the ground. They got the same sun, same location.

My uneducated noob assumption is that the stress of being confined to a pot, and/or the more immediate and concentrated uptake of nutes available to the captive plants, is making the potted sativas flower much earlier. Hopefully I can replicate it next year with 5 or 6 in pots of different sizes to see...
A) if that's accurate, and the potted plants do flower MUCH earlier like they did this year...and
B) what is the point if diminishing returns in regard to pot size. (Meaning, does a sativa in a 20gal pot flower early just like the 5gal pots have)

My also newbie educated guess is that it has as much to do with roots being bound in the pots initiating the flower cycle sooner than later. My in ground plants have great veg, and great buds, but not sure the buds are going to finish as strong as they could with all the moisture coming. Again it may be these sativa strains are just more light and airy buds without as many big tight beer can thick colas. My two cents....

Lads, I’m sick to my stomach to find all my tops gone. I KNEW that I should have gotten the camera last night. I can only hope that he comes back now that I’ll be prepared. I don’t know how to feel, feeling disgusted and unsafe. They’re taking more than buds from me.

oh boy just checked the 10 dayLOLi don't live in maine because we have dry warm fallsLOL u gotta love it!! ghost train haze x skidder trl just gonna make:bigjoint:
Wow thanks for the weather update, I was doomed before you posted that. 2 days of 24 hr fog, then 2 full night of fog, now 2 days of rain.
Just checked the LBSDx, she is looking good under cover, ten days is what I need. She is an Oregon girl from Commie growers . They do all kinds of commie stuff- open field pollination,Non Profit, free seeds to the poor, meds for the infirm, and apparently a mold resistant strain so far. Lotsa big tops, eats like a horse.

The Pink Gorillas are not pink yet. Just checked the flowering on other Mosca Pink 2.0 crosses, those will be "October". They are taking their time. Not for outdoor this area, they got drafted when the outdoor saplings turned male. Counting on global warming to finish her, I'm an optimist and am going to have beach front property in 50 years.

Let me answer your question with a question to the group...

What would you all do if this was your plant?

I thought I had 3 or 4 weeks left...until I checked trics. Now Im thinking I should be picking a day soon to chop.
I know how these look, but I'm confused. The bud doesn't look done to me. Still a ton of white pistols, not the swelling I expected yet, none of the other signs saying "she done". Should I not trust my lying trichomes?

Wait, so they came back and ripped the rest? Thats brazen, you better get a 8 cam NVR and watch your house now. They are going to run out in a month. Are you in NH , or can you call the cops? Our local cops go after these guys now with a vengeance, they don't care about plant count. They are not even allowed to pull overgrow or anything per the Chief ( he had 5lb of RKS in his evidence room for 3 yrs, no ventilation)
The night cop confiscated some lemon Haze from a minor, He blew a gasket , said don't care what they smell, don't bring any in ever again.

My heart says "a few spots of amber, does not a finished plant make"...and that I should be factoring in the totality of the signs, which are not all there.

Upon further consideration, I stick by my initial estimate of at least 3 weeks. Unless anyone has any strong objections. For the record, this plant is 80% sativa...

Look at the trics on the buds, not on the leaves. They look like they need a few more weeks to finish

Yea, for sure. I learned that last year haha. I usually check all the parts of the flower then average it out. Those were just the clearest pictures I could get so I shared those, but they are representative of the trics directly on the buds (in all parts of the plant).

Follow up question...last year I asked about flushing (I'm not starting that debate here) and since have researched enough to form my own options on it.

However, I still have some uncertainty on a different preharvest ritual. The idea behind the 48 hour dark period is very interesting to me.

Has anyone tried it?

Ive researched it a lot but I dont have my own experience to draw from. Is there anything to it or is it more woo woo bs? Like everything else with cannabis, its not been possible to find a controlled side by side comparison.
