New groom room design questions

Hello, I'm moving into a new house in a couple months and have already reserved one bedroom for growing. I want to start planning ahead so once I move I can know exactly what I need and how to set it up. Therefore, I'll be coming back to this thread with periodic questions. I hope that's ok by forum guidelines.

My first question is this: the bedroom i'll be using as a grow room is a pretty standard bedroom size...i think around 10ft x 6ft. I'll have two 600w lights (one MH, one HPS) running through veg and flowering and I think I'll do around 9-10 plants the first run.

I first planned on lining the walls and floor with mylar and setting up the grow area in the middle of the room. However, I am now coming to understand that this method may not be the best because the lights will not be enclosed in a smaller space and so will be wasted on the rest of the room. Is this accurate or not? Common sense tells me that with a proper reflector, the light would be concentrated on the plant.

What do you guys think? Should I grow the plants in the middle of the room, or should I buy a grow tent?

P.S. I'm only growing for personal use and for fun so I'm not so concerned with being able to run a perpetual grow....I wouldn't know what to do with all that bud!

Get a 4'x4' tent. A 600w will cover 3'x3' well, the extra foot will give you some room for odds and ends.

If you dont want to run a perpetual cycle just run the MH for vegetative growth and switch to the HPS for flowering. No need to run both lights. You could easily pull 1/2-1lb per cycle.

Do you have a MH ballast and an HPS ballast or are they switchable and you have a MH bulb and an HPS bulb?

The number of plants isnt the determining factor, it is the size of the plants when you put them in flowering. A single plant that has been grown out for 4 months can yield more than 16 plants flowered directly from seed.

Four plants with a 4 week veg would be a good start. Train the plants as they grow so you maintain an even canopy/

That is great advice. I've read that I can do at least 9 plants under 600w with 3 weeks veg, 8 weeks flower and yield a lot more. Do you think that's not right?

I actually put together a list of the light gear. Let me know what you think...

I recently put a digital 600 on a 2x3 foot scrog, there are 6 plants, I expect it to hit an lb give or take.. You can do it in a tent or not. I also run a pair of 1000's, If you can swing it I HIGHLY recommend a switchable 1000. There is no comparison to the coverage and penetration. With the 600 keep em tied down to avoid too much stretch, In my experience, if your plants get a little leggy just by a few inches it can make a huge difference when you have to raise the light even a few inches. See inverse square law. As much as I like my digital 600, The 1000 covers the envelope a little better I think.

you don't think it's overkill to put 1000W in a 4'x4'? I feel like for my growing purposes, I don't need the extra cost of the 1000W lights plus the burden of controlling the added heat.
