New Grow Few Problems

Hey Guys

Started another grow but this time I'm not using tents, using an old walk in wardrobe I've stripped back.
Due to some bad luck and a lot of problems I'm broke, :( , so this is getting done on the extra cheap just now and adding to it when I can.
At the moment I'm using 2 x 200w CFL blue spectrum lights for veg, I'm going to be buying a hps in the next while but for the time being I'm just concentrating on the veg, if it turns out to be female I'll take clones from her.
Should probably have said that this is 1 bagseed, the real purpose if this is just to get the room up to scratch before I go ahead with some decent seeds.
The poor seedling has gone through a lot tho with root problems and mute problems, I've just transplanted into a 20L Oxypot.
i have the res at 13L, just under the 140mm net pot.
Using GHE Flora Series Nutes
Just flushed her tonight and added nutes to the res,
7.5ml Micro
7.5ml Gro
7.5ml Bloom

heres some pics of things at the moment.
Any and all comments and advice is much appreciated

Many Thanks
M

If you think there are problems, you can turn things around quickly just by getting your reservoir dialed in. You should get something to test PH and PPM. Cheap liquid PH testing would be good. A PPM probe will be a bit more but very necessary. I would get your PH around 5.8, with a liquid PH test kit shoot for 6 and its cool. PPM at this point should be lower like 300-500 PPM. Did your nutrient brand recommend that 1-1-1 ratio?

Also, have you ever grown using hydroponic method? What is your level of experience? I can help you a lot as I have eons of exp. with hydro, so.....

Hi Internode

Thanks for the reply mate, ya I have a EC Meter and PH Pen ordered from Hong Kong via a well known auction site, ordered from there as the price difference is extreme in comparison to my local hydro shops.
I'll be aiming for the 5.8 ph level when it comes,
according to what I've read about my nutrients there doesn't seem to be any reason to mess with the ph as supposedly the 3 part solution is supposed to settle the ph level at 5.5 - 6
As for the 1 - 1 - 1 ratio, I found it a but strange too but I'm going on what the manufacturers recommended but I've dialled it down a bit as they were saying 2.5ml of each per US Gallon (@3.5l) I'm in the UK.
I've got some hydro experience but not a large amount, only one grow under my belt and that was 4 year ago now but it was a fairly large grow.
I have one question, I'm not sure if I've for my 2 lights in the best position, I did have just one of them on and hanging directly over the plant but I moved that so I could have the 2 up and now it's kinda in the middle of the 2 lights.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, I'll put pics of the light set up on this post.
Drom the pics above would you think that the plant is suffering from mute burn or could it possibly be a ph problem??

Your lights are fine for now. You are not gonna really get to far with those two little CFL bulbs anyway. Your PH is probably out of range and just because the flora series "buffers" the PH doesn't mean that it is correct after a fresh mix. It really means that once you get the PH correct it wont drift much. Do you know the PH of the water you are using? I am betting on any problems you are having being PH. In hydro PH and PPM are two extremely important areas to get right.

I tend to see signs of N deficiency, I use GH grow, micro, bloom also, looks lid a hydro system you have, if so here's my mixture as instructed on my bottles.

Mix
First
FloraFloraFlora
GrowMicroBloom
tsp/gallontsp/gallontsp/gallon

These are my GH nutes:

100_0552.jpg By the way, each time I mix a new batch I have to adjust my ph, it's always too high, also my ppm's full strength gives me a ppm of around 1500, way too much for my plants.

At the moment Im not certain of the ph value of my water.
I thought 2 x 200w CFL's would be fine for veg to start, Im not going to be using those 2 lights for flower just veg an to hold her as a mother plant if it turns out to be female.
Once I have the meters get here I can manage the levels that bit better but for the time being I'm stuck with what I have ;)

Thanks for that chart, I'm going to got check on the plant this morning and see how it's looking, I'll give it a day or so to see how it likes its new bucket and nutes and if its still looking fairly bad I'll change the res and use the chart you have here to work against.

Hey, Here is the actual mix chart for the flora series nutrients. If you follow this you should get good results. Rule of thumb, when in doubt use a little less...flora-series.jpg

Thanks for that mate, that's the chart I'm using just now, hence the 1-1-1 rratio
I'll update pics in the next hour, hopefully it's looking that bit healthier ;)
Thanks for your help mate, it's much appreciated

Hey guys

The little plant is starting to look healthy again, woo hoo, think its liking the DWC bucket very much, roots are starting to come down through the net pot and hopefully by the end of the week they will be in the res enjoying the nutes.
Im just hoping that when they do hit the res that they won't start to go brown and die again, fingers crossed.
Heres a few new pics of it :)

I know thats probably not the kind of things others would say but i would remove 1x200w until the plant is about 5inch ... because with all those little leafs she dont really need all those watts to grow. and if you have just one .. put it to around 2 inch of the plant ... and put a small fan right on the light so it can spread the heat and do go directly to the plant.
And if you do just be sure no light goes under your cover .. you dont want some light or heat on those roots.

Have a good one man!

Btw its indica isnt it??

Hi Mate

thanks for that, that's exactly what I was wanting to know at the start of this thread, I did think that 1 200w cfl was fine for the time being but no one seemed to be able to tell me that.
Ive got the 2 hung about 2 inch above the plant but there kinda on both side of the plant, I have the plant in the middle of the 2 lights. It's about 5inch tall just now so I might just leave it the way it us for now. I'll stick a pic of it up later tonight and you can let me know what ya think or any other ideas y may have.
Ive just added an isolating fan Tobit tonight to spread the heat a bit. I have the fan in the same timer as the lights so its only on when the lights are on. I've added the fan not only for the heat but to imitate wind so the stem starts to thicken up as it grows.
As for it being indica or sativa, I couldn't tell ya to be honest, It's just a single bagseed I got. I don't even know if it is female yet, lol :o
Im going to give it another week or two and then take a clone from it and stuck the clone into flower after it builds some root mass, that way I'll figure outbid its male or female, I'm not wanting to put the plant itself into flower as I'd like to keep it as a mother plant if it does turn out to be female so I thought this might be a good way of going about that.
Plus this is only a cheap go at it as in fairly broke just now and only buying things for it as and when I can.

Your problem is your trash bag seeds and your lights and your environment.

Too many variables here....

Looked at your most recent pick and I would say maybe three more weeks to a month before you attempt cloning unless that baby starts bushing up. What is your clone technique?

Wow!!!! Your a really nice person with such a lovely attitude!!!!
My "trash bag seeds" as you say is all I'm willing to use at the moment until I can get the room up to proper standards, and as I have said twice already in this thread, at the moment I don't have the ends to this straight away and am doing it bit by bit as and when I can.
My lights are more than adequate for what I have at the moment!!!!
As for my "ppm" I don't have an ec meter so I can not do this just now.

But non the less many many thanks for your gratuitous attitude and very very positive comments towards me.

Ahhh thanks for that mate I will leave it for that long before I take any clones from it, I was hoping that it would start bushing up in the next 2 weeks and then I could take a single clone from it to start.

As for a clone technique, I don't really have one, I just snip just under a node, dip it in purified water, dip it in clonex put it in rockwool and then into a heated propagater.
Hasnt failed me yet with having 100% success when doing it in the past.
But in saying that my last grow was 4 years ago and in homebox tents with nearly limitless funds.
Unfortunately times have somewhat changed and funds are non existent and nearly all my old gear is gone and I'm basically starting from scratch. :(

@Valuski

sounds like you do have a clone technique lol. Sorry to hear things went down for you. Just keep that plant looking nice and things will work out fine.

you might as well start a journal
