New Grow, Jack Horror, 120W CFL.

Hi,

Si I've decided to start a small closet grow, using 5 Jack Horror feminized seeds from Nirvana.

The Seeds in question:

At first I want to germinate one seed, just to be sure of what I'm doing (haven't grown since more than 8 years).
I'm gonna use a regular soil mix, + this type of nutrients:

Not sure if it'll do the trick, but problem is where I'm from, I don't have access to many choices.

In terms of lights, I'll use 4x 30watts CFL's. Yup, that's not a lot, but considering the energy price here, I'd rather start with a small setup.

Anyways, after a bit more than a week after germinating, here's what I got:

The plant is growing in a box during night, and next to the window during day. Doing this I hope to save a few $$ on energy, and since it's pretty sunny outside.

Any suggestion appreciated :)

AFTER FRIST WEEK OF VEG:

The plant looks healthy, but a bit skinny for now... :?

Also, I upgraded my box... to a larger box. Also seeded a 2nd Jack Horror, but this time put it in coco (90%, rest is hydroton). That way I'll compare the 2 grows:

I'm working on getting some more CFL's, more suited for vegging.

Little update:

Big girl seems to be doing ok:

However, there are two aspects that could be troublesome:

CurlyLeaves1.JPGCurlyLeaves2.JPG
= Two leaves are starting to have edges that are curling up, not sure what that's about?

YellowLeaves.JPG
Also, the very first small leaves have turned yellow. I probably shouldn't worry about that, right?

shes streching a lil..light maybe to far away...you can put CLFs about an inch away from leaf..id run a 24 hr on light cycle or a 20/4...jock streches x2 or x3 when flowered so consider topping and flowering early...give the plants a week to recover after topping before flowering.

Don't worry about the cotyledons, but the curling might be a pH issue. I note you are growing in what looks like a mixture of coco coir and hydroton. Your pH needs to be around 5.5 - 6 for that medium. Check that out.

3rd Week Of Veg:

So I followed some of the advice here, and I put her closer to the lamps. Thing is, I think it burnt one of my leaves, so I backed down to about 2 inches:

Either it's due to the fact that it was touching the bulb, or it's a sign of a nutrient burn.

I was starting to see something similar on the tip of another leaf, but since I moved it further from the bulb it hasn't developed.

Also, so younger one seems to be doing OK, even though it has stretched a bit & growing at a slower pace:

Oh and it's been a week since 1 turned on the other 2 bulbs, the first two weeks I had 2x 30w, now I'm using 4x 30w.

Thanks for the tip, the little certainly needed to be closer to the lights.
I'm not sure if I'm gonna top or just lst.

Thanks,

Yes, the smaller one is growing in a mix of coco & clay pellets, whereas the bigger one is just a soil mix & fertilizer.

Thanke mate,
Could also be ph, thing is I'm playing with fire by not controlling my Ph. That should be sorted within the next few days, I'm gonna get my hands on a tester.

UPDATE ON SETUP

Well I finally decided to invest a little, so I walked out the local grow shop with a grow tent, and a 400W HPS. :dunce:

It's a 1m x 1m tent.

Can't wait to see what it's gonna give :)

I've never had a bad experience with Nirvana (yet), and I'm sure these seeds will turn out just fine, as long as I don't fuck up!

Nice! hope they work well for ya man
Thanks mate, I sure hope too :)

UPDATE:

I re-potted the oldest one, using a 4 gallon pot. I thought I might as well add some perlite in the Re-potting Earth Mix.

Here's how it looks:

Also, I ordered a Ph / EC meter because it was about time, and in the meantime I got a cheap chemical ph test thing, that's not precise at all but I realized my tap water was around 8 (!), so that explains some problems I had, specifically the short one not growing fast at all. Obviously I got some Ph Down, and I'm waiting for some real nutrients, that could suit soil as well as coco.

The small one doesn't feel like growing...

And there are still yellow traces on some leaves:

i'm likin the little lady that's quite the stem XD and the big lady is chunking up nice, i wouldn't worry to much about a couple yellowing spots i mean yea they look nasty but the plant seems much healthier now, it may be residual damage just growing out. i keep going back and looking at the big girl shes really purty :3 kudos
