New grow, pics included

It's that time of the year in Florida. The rest of the country might be awaiting spring but it's already in the mid nineties in sunny Florida. This is a small closet grow, nine plants to start, I'm hoping for six females. There are four thc bombs, two caramelicious and three street bagseed beans from a particularly good batch of street weed.

The six oldest plants are the bombs and caramels, they broke ground the twenty first of last month. The other three from bagseed are four days younger. First week they got fox farm big bloom, I'm also using fox farm ocean forest soil. After they were all two weeks old which was yesterday, they got a mixture of grow big, big bloom and a quarter strength dose of 24-8-16 nutes. I'm using one gallon grow bags, which I really like. There is about an inch of pebble in the bottoms of the bag and I mixed some silica and worm castings into the soil along with two mycorrihizae tablets in each bag for the root system.

I'm a bit concerned about the heat, it hit ninety one in the closet yesterday afternoon but once I open the door after work I can get it down to about eighty two or three. I'll post pics every week for a progress update.

It looks great.

Twenty five days old today. Started to show a bit of yellowing of the bottom fan leaves on one plant so I started them on their nutrients. I'm using 24-8-16 at quarter strength for their first feeding. As mentioned before I'm using fox farm soil and the trio of big bloom, grow big and tiger bloom. I'm also using cal-mag and sweet for sulphur and iron and to keep the plants as compact as possible. The fimming was pretty successful, it appears I chopped out one top but the rest seem to be recovering nicely and will have one main cola, I'm hoping.

It's not the lights. I'm using a t5 high output fluorescent and I try to keep them two inches from the tops. In some cases the tubes are even further away due to the different sizes of the plants.

What you might have noticed is I tried to FIM six of the plants so you might be noticing the deformity of the top leaves on some of the plants. As best as I can tell there are no burns on any of the plants. I had also just misted them before I took the pictures.

Looking great my friend...I used those same grow bags and found them to be abit of a pain in the a$$.

I have been useing hoT5 myself for over a year now. I started useing 4'4 bulb, now I am useing 4' 8 bulb, I love them. I keep them 15-18 inches above. When they are close like you have them there growth is not as fast. They put out 5000 lumens per bulb. Try moving them up and then you can see for yourself. Happy Grows.

I keep them close to try to prevent internodal stretching. I also use 'sweet' for the same reason. I saw a light chart where it described the amount of light lost for every foot further away from the source, it diminishes quickly. Due to space constrictions I am doing my best to keep them small. On our last grow, my partners plants were huge. My avatar is one of his buds. I have also read where keeping the plants as short as possible actually will increase the yield because the light doesn't have to travel as far so it is more concetrated, more compact buds. Our last girls were good, but the buds were airy. My partner just got himself a six tube four footer but the heat from the additional ballast was causing him problems. He ran a flexible duct from his air conditioning in the top of his closet down about six feet to bring the cool air closer to the floor, his exhaust fan was pretty much negating the air conditioning in the closet.

There is so much information available it's mind boggling. I see our hobby as an ongoing experiment. It's like golf, you can never 'beat' the game but you sure can improve your game. Mine has certainly improved from my first grow.

Thank you. Actually I find them to be fine for my purposes. I was going to use square pots like my partner but I thought I would give these a try. I wanted more depth and I find these to fit the bill perfectly.

I finally got some new pics. The babies are four weeks old now and every time I look at them I could swear I hear very softly, flower me. I have one gallon of fifty percent strength ferts left to give them and then it's flower time. I'm guessing within the next week.

You can clearly see the effects of the fimming on three of the plants. The other three, I took the tops out so they are growing two main colas. Some of the nodes are starting to alternate and on one plant there are three branches coming out of a couple of nodes before it reverted back to two at each node.

Anyway, on to the porn.

The first pic shows the one plant that is throwing off a ton of secondary growth. It is also the plant with three leaves coming out of the stem. You can just see it second node from the top of the curvy looking stem. You can really see it in the second pic. The fourth pic you can see the fimming.

The last picture shows two of the plants with their tops taken out.

You know in pots when the soil starts to dry out and it pulls away from the sides of the pot? These bags don't do that as much and they hold a really good amount of soil. I also put hydroton on top of the soil to help it not dry out so much and I don't punch holes on the soil when I water. Hope that helps.
