True, but this is the case now with almost all new tent models coming out. Because almost all of them have the silver reflective interior.

I have a DR300w. 4.9' x 9.9' x 6.7'

I weigh about 200 pounds.

I wanted to see if I could hang my Can-filter 33 on the side of the tent. I picked the most sturdy point right in the middle of the tent where 3 poles meet. I thought that the plastic used for this spot was weak and I needed to prove it.

I started to pull down on both sides of the plastic piece while holding on to each ceiling side bar. I applied only a small amount of pressure....equal to about 30 pounds, and one side of the plastic piece snapped off right in my hand.

I laughed cause I knew it all along. I did a review on my tent months ago and I spit up my coffee when I saw that peach gave the tent a 9/10 rating.

I will admit that the smaller tents like the DR120 and smaller have a better build because they use shorter bars. The tents that are 5' wide and larger use 2 bars for their crossmembers to connect to each plastic "holder".

I believe this is the main reason Secret Jardin either:

#1 - collaborated with Everest Garden Supply and Homebox to make the new tents

#2 - were bought out by Everest who used their technology

#3 - will stop making the Dark Room all together

You can see for yourself that the Grow Labs are the replacements the Dark Rooms. Stop buying the DRs. Waste of $$$ right now.

I saw this blog last night right after I purchased the Secret Jardin DR120. I think this is going to be a good tent for me, hopefully. It was more money than the homebox and any other brand but it got such great reviews from a lot of people. I hope it will do well considering what I just read above.

dont worry...honestly, he's the only person ive EVER seen complain on the DRs stability...want a little more reinforcement?...duct or gorilla tape the connection points

Whatever funkdockt says has to be right cause I'm the only one to EVER complain about these pieces of shit.

But hey.....at least he's cool with duct and gorilla tape AFTER the fact you already spent a shitload of money to have things perfect.

I never expected to be able to hang my filter / fan off the side of it. They're sitting on the floor outside the tent.

Why would you hang that off the side anyway? The roof is going to be stronger and resist toppling better.

The tent works fine for what it's designed to do which is reflect light, hold the lamp and keep the smell under control.

I don't get why people think you should be able to hang off a tent or try putting their weight on the frame. If you want that kind of stability, you want to do a room conversion.

I'm totally open to there being better tents, but for what I paid I couldn't have expected a whole load more.

I would 100% agree that for a bigger tent I'd seriously want some cross braces on the frame. These can't cost more than a few $'s to add to the tent, but would improve the rigidity and walls a lot. I'm glad I didn't go for one of the huge ones actually. And if I was looking for that kind of scale I'd probably go with a small room in the house.

The big tents would be great in a loft in terms of heat signatures - where there's space for them.

none of this helps me figure out which tent to get... right now i'm leaning homebox, but the new one is pretty cool too...

i actually dont like that window feature - if someone walked into the room - thats the first thing they would touch... if they wanna know there is herb in there, i want them to dismantle it...

Yeah, lets not turn this thread into a flame war please.

I started it so that we can compare some of the tents on the market and get some feedback from people who have had experience with them.

And by the way, I've seen pictures of FunkDocKT's setup in a Dark Room tent and it looks pretty good. He has at least 30-50lbs of equipment hanging from a DR150
and it looks like it's taking it pretty well. I'm sure the poles could be stronger, but it doesn't look like it's going to collapse under normal use or anything.

I agree with you about the clear windows on the front. What's worse is that they just have velcro holding them closed.
It seems like they would be prone to having light leaks. And it's just unnecessary.

i also dont really like velcro... i think the homebox only uses zippers... except on the wire entrances and stuff....

i would hate it if the doors were velcro...

You can always frame a box to your dimensions and just wrap it in PandaFilm.

I like the idea of having heavier fabric on the Growlab. The Dark Room's walls are about the thickness of a tent's fly sheet (the outer water deflecting sheet). It works, but it would feel nicer if it was heavy canvas. Still not sure about the window, I don't think I'd want to pay for one.

EDIT: someone PM'ed me worried about me saying the Dark Rooms fabric is like a tent's fly sheet. That's kind of misleading. What I mean is, it's not as thick as the denim on a pair of jeans say. But it is 100% light proof. I have a 1kw running inside one and can't see anything at night with the room's own light turned off - only the air intakes glow a little, enough to be visible but not light up a room in any way. The fabric is tough enough it doesn't feel like it's going to rip. Some heavier fabric (like the Growlab) would make it feel a bit more solid - not sure about the door arrangements on the growlab, and the more i look at the window the less I like it.

I still think they should also have some magnets to tack things open and closed in place of poppers or velcro - so I can hold the door open while working inside. You could do that yourself with some magnets from ebay and a tube of epoxy.

Well, I'm down to ordering my tent this week.

I've got to decide between the DR120, and the new HydroHut Silver. I'm not considering
the Growlab at the moment, since it is so new and costs the same as the HydroHut.

The HH Silver is clearly more heavy duty than the DR120, but I can get the DR for about
$65 less with shipping included. So that's pretty much what it comes down to. I'm heavily
leaning towards the DR120 at the moment because of so many people backing it, so if anyone
has any last word or advice then let me know what you think.

Looks cool, My homebox has kind of cheap stitching. When I assembled it for the first time some of it came out and i had to re-sew it by hand. Other than that it has been great.

stay away from hydrohut, their tents killed my grow, i got a secret jardin and it worked killer, i dont care if hydrohut fixed the problem they still dragged their feet even after everyone told them how the tents killed everything in sight

I just pulled the trigger on a DR120, along with a few other essentials.
I felt like it was the best choice for now, and I can always switch if something better comes along.

I read alot of opinions and got alot of advice on the Dark Rooms, and thanks to everyone who gave some input.

I'm going to be using the DR120 with a 400watt HPS and Super Sun II air cooled reflector w/Vortex fan, and FoxFarm nutes.
I plan on experimenting with bagseed, and then using some Auto Ak47 for my first real grow.

I'll keep everyone updated, possibly with a grow journal.

These new Dark Rooms are nice if your want to hang your Scrubber inside the tent they can support the weight for sure. Other then that I see no reason for spending the extra money on them. The Homebox and Sunhuts will work just fine. For the do it yourselfer just hang some panda and spend more on lights!!! For the 200+ price tags on these thing you can get a 10' x 100' roll of poly for 70 bucks and be able to set up however you want.
