New grower, need help picking a strain

Hey everyone I'm new to this, I've been trying to read as much as I can on this forum as well as a lot of books. But I am having a little trouble deciding on a strain, I just want to make sure I pick one that is good for a newbie as I am sure I will make my fair share of mistakes my first time around.

The qualities I am looking for are that I want a plant that will work well in a SOG setup, and it needs to be a plant that is a little more forgiving in regards to the stress I might put on it as a first time grower. I am growing in the first place for medical purposes, so I defintely want a strain that will increase my appetite, decrease nausea, and help me sleep.

I wanna order from highgrade seeds, since i've heard nothing but good things about them and they have 3-day shipping to the US.

The ones I am trying to decide between are:
Northern Lights #5
Hash Plant
Big Blue
Hindu Kush
Blue Rhino

Thanks in advance. Also if anyone has any feedback about highgrade in general, I would like to hear that too.

i have grown highgrade's nl#5, that is a pretty good strain, both from my experience and from other grow logs of it
i didn't SOG, so can't give you specifics on that
haven't tried any of the other strains listed, though i have just finished a hgs brainwreck grow

I grew the the Hindu Kush, quite potent, more Sativa like than I was expectecting. 3 different sized phenotypes a dwarf, a reg and a monster that refused to stop stretching so I chopped it down. I'd go with the Hash Plant or the Blue Rhino. I was not a happy camper with the service as they decided to go on a holiday the day after I sent my order with an express post mailer to speed things up. I waited nearly a month before I got my seeds.

Most of the Indica & mostly Indica hybrid strains are pretty easy to grow mate and will do great in a SOG grown with a single cola. Pick one that you like the sound of from the taste/grow description given that will suit you the best.

That sucks, bro. The whole reason I am ordering from highgrade is because of the speed of the shipping, otherwise I would be ordering from attitude as they have a much larger selection and some super awesome looking strains.

Anyone else ordered from highgrade? How long did your seeds take to get to you? I would be ordering with the $25 express shipping, which supposedly should get to me anywhere in the US within 3 days.

that was years ago I'm sure they've cleaned up their act now with the fierce competition out there.
Hempdepot is pretty fast but no express shipping. (They're in Ontario same as Highgrade).

i look at it like a car. my first one was cheap, had issues, and taught me what i need to know. my first grow, was cheap, bagseed, and i learned alot. the easiest ive grown has been white widow and is what ive been growing ever since.the plants can take alot, i mean alot. they produce alot and work great in a sog. really any white strain does this, but as long as the plants are not some crazy cross with varing phenos, it should be pretty easy.

Yeah i know its kind of crazy to pay $25 shipping for a $50 order, but the way i see it getting the seeds in 3 days as opposed to 3 weeks saves me 2.5 weeks of having to buy weed (and that would be a lot more than $25).

I would use bagseed for my first grow, but none of the people I buy from sell bud with seeds. I could buy schwag and get the seeds out of that, but I don't really wanna grow schwag seeds.

I'll look into the white strains, thanks bro. Are you saying a white strain cross (like Blue Rhino) would not be ideal?

dunno blue rhino is a cross of blueberry and white rhino, white rhino is a cross between white widow and afgani, so, it is more prone to have varing phenos, such as one plant might be a foot taller than the others while one might be a foot shorter than the others. still would like to grow though.

Try some bag seeds first. It sucks killing 20 dollar seeds.

Thanks for the heads up, hughesresearch. I'm gonna be growing out the plants from seed and then cloning, so if some of em turn out to be too tall for the SOG then I just won't take clones from that one. It would be better if they were all the same though.

The only bagseeds I can get would be from cheap weed, I never buy that kind of bud because its just not as effective for increasing my appetite, nausea, etc. I don't want to put a lot of effort into growing some mediocre bud. I know it would be better than the schwag it came from just because I would take better care of it, but it probably still wouldn't be as good as one of the strains I could order online. I'm not gonna start with $20 seeds though, highgrade's seeds are like $3 and some change each.

Northern lights is a plant suitable for beginners are pros,good yield and very potent.Afghani strains are also good for noobs.

try seedsman seeds...they are cheap quality seeds and better than nirvana if i might add. had them on my first grow everything germinated and i did fine with there strains. i also heard that there white widow is the best knock-off.

look at the bright side of the variability, you'll be getting a variety pack of strains, sort of.
Speaking of variety packs, I always wanted to try that multi strain pack of old schoolstrains, Panama Red etc.
Soon after my last order they were charging $60 US for 10 seeds plus $5 shipping and handling for EACH pack. The Canadian dollar was like 65 cents on the dollar exchange pushing the price to about $100 for ten for me. Hempdepot got all my business from then on.
I suggested the Blue Rhino as I felt it would have the best sleep aid properties BTW.

Trainwreak, chemdog, and many others came from mexican shwag. Just cause they grew them shitty and dryed them in the sun and smushed them into bricks doesnt mean it will be the same smoke you would get when grown properly.

The difference between shwag, mids and high quality is grower experiance and care.

But you can find some nice cheep/good strains thru nirvana seed bank.

im growing nirvana now. yea its the grower, but if the strain is shit, its shit. though ive got a reg i found as an experiment and it smells like dank, so, idk

Go with cali connection you will plenty of good strains mostly kush strains

Hash plant 100% out if those. Really tho I'd go kush La confidential OG or bubba. Or purple urkle(great sog or scrog) clone only tho.
