NEW Growing Method

Sooooo ive been thinking about this method of mine for a while. MY phreaky twist. Hopefully when i run my experiment in the next few weeks and months, everything will produce more bud with less space and also give me a neat little shape.

Basically, in theory, by using the shape of the spring and forcing the plant to curve around the spring, it should grow well continuously up the spring, without taking a whole bunch of space.

Also, light penetration would be easier because of how the plant could be spaced. Now im not talking about the springs being to close or too far away but just right. The upcoming days should bring lots of photos and data regarding this experiment.

Peace,

PHreak

Also, some thing else i forget to mention was node spacing and bud sites. This should give me a lot more because of the set-up. Lemme know what you guys think

I've seen something similar to this, this guy was lsting and he worked the plant all the way around the inside of the pot. I was pretty impressive, the yeild, he had something like 18 colas or something crazy like that off one plant. So your idea should prolly work out the same. good luck

What are you planning on using for the coil? Have on built yet? Nice idea, I'm interested to see how it turns out. Subbed.

I think this method would be counter productive unless you are going with a vertical light and the bulb is inside the coil or the outside of the coil is surrounded by lights (I read of a super long plant grow around a cage like this with CFLs on around it). While this may have an advantage of increased productions from not needing to spend as much energy supporting itself (since it can use the coil/spring) unless the diameter of the coil is large I think this won't be worth it. Once it gets long enough that it makes more than 1 complete rotation around the circumference of the coil branches will just be competing for space the same way they would be if you were growing vertically without a coil.

So yeah the only way I see this making sense is if the diameter of the spring/coil/cage is a couple feet and you don't plan on having the stem wrap in a complete circle more than once or twice. Unless you decided to mount lights all around the outside of the plant (or a bulb inside the spring).

that's a good point about the crowding. even in a normal lst there comes a point (usually around the first rotation as you mentioned) where there is nothing left but vertical space. the size of the coil thing would be the most important detail, followed by pot size and veg time. sounds like it would take a few attempts to dial in. i disagree about absolutely having to use vertical light. maybe throw a cfl in the middle of the coil, but even then the branching would eventually fill the hollow space unless you're dealing with a huge pot. either way i would be subbed if the op made a thread about it.

I don't see what advantage this offers over a traditional LST circle technique.

If you coil like that the branches will compete for dominance, which is wasted energy when the lowers get shaded out and don't produce in flowering.

Way too much work to do unless you have 2 plants under a CFL. No grower otherwise would want to use this for any more than 400 watts of lighting............... Sometimes all these cute springs and methods just waste time when if done correctly would produce the same results.............. I aint a hater, its just not a good viable idea on any small or large scale due to the time and no yield benefits whatsoever.

I think its wiser to come up with new ideas by looking at what people do now -- and *why*............. e.g., why does that kid love aeroponics so much and why does the vertical stadium guy love that way. Both grow, but surely there must be measurable results as to which methods and practices should be better.

Right now if we compare the science of Marijuana growing to the science of the Universe, we have the laws of marijuana and then 100 theories on how to grow it, with nobody really doing any tests in a scientific and controlled environment to determine which is "the best" method to grow.............

If I had to put REAL MONEY on the BEST way to grow it would be the Under Current systems with 4 plants per 1000w lamp in a vertical environment. In a sytem like this the plants are constantly being fed and the root zones constantly oxygenated and they grow as quick as a plant can. We dont have an Under Current thread here or a section yet, most of that is still fairly new @ thcfarmer........
