I get just over 1lb. out of my 600w. and thats 60 plants in 4 dwc tubs.
1-1000w. light MH/hps bulbs= $200-$400
20- 3gal grow bags= $10
8" suncort in line fan $25
2 bales peat moss $20
perlite and osmoctoe $20
Ph drop tester $10
thermometer/hydrometer $20
experience on your first grow $ priceless
this should be all you need to get started, you wont grow the best but what you learn will help you the most
nice. do you have a grow journal? if you don't mind, check mine out. i could use all the help i can get. im doing my 2nd grow now, and learning lots.

for my next grow, im planning on using my current 600 for veg, and 2x1000's for flower in a 4' deep x 8' long tent (custom built) 32 plants (1 per square foot) SOG style

hey mac, don't let all these fools scare you from the mg potting soil mix, this girl was grown with mg. i've used it several times with great results. have you thought about putting your light on a mover?

first off.. 200-300 gallons of antibacterial stuff and submerge that basement for a month... i agree on 2 x 600w. i would also create a seperate area for a mother and clones with a 250w mh. im worried about fungi in that room though.. looks absolutly horrible..

Mac, I'm dead jealous you have all that space man!!! You could do a lot with that much room! I'd pressure wash the whole thing in bleach though before I ever even took a seed near it though, there's a 100 years worth of creepy crawlies down there that need killin. I'd then paint it with some fresh white paint and that should get you going in the right direction. You sound like your trying to save a few bucks, which is understandable, but I can't stress how much you'll regret it if you don't spend some money now, you'll be rewarded later for it. (when it comes to soil and nutes)
When it comes to ventilation, I don't see how your going to be able to do that without running a little ventilation, especially with a 1000w or two 600w lights.
I'd go two 600's and a small tent for mothers. you could get a perpetual garden going in there from the clones and have a harvest every 1-2 months when your done. :)
Man, i wish i had some space like that!

yea i dont think ima bleach it, or powerwash it lol. I will hide it tho. i almost got all the humidity in check. jacked a 400 dollar digital de-humidifier. ive dumped 5 pails of water in two days. believe it or not, i have yet to see any mold, mainly cobwebs, spiders, and dampness which is drying up fast. i'm lining that room in mylar. added another cfl to veg 6500k. and ive noticed the soil aint drying out. after i added the dehumidifier and the box fan in the mix. plants are looking more perky, and the soil is drying better.

I think you got your sights set a bit high dude, why don't you just get a plant to live till it gives up its smoke, then every improvement you make will be made because of an experience that you had in your space and conditions, not a bunch of advice from growers who use different styles of growing and whose advice may differ or even contradict each other.

Only U can determine your growing style.

To bleach/disinfect that space, is the single most important bit of advice you have received in this thread. To ignore about ten people advising you to do this is absolute noobishness at it's worst.

Please, oh please, oh pretty please do not line that space with anything, to do so will beg a host of nasty flora and fauna to grow and fester into crop failure no matter how cheap or expensive or complicated you choose to grow. Not only that, but the water you are currently sucking out will be inaccessible to the dehumidifier and therefore it will be available to nurture all them nasties. Only a very thick coat of flat white paint, how cheap and easy is that?

:peace: out

Unless your bagseed came from truly great pot you wot yield what you think. Spend $40 at single-seed.com and get a couple top notch strains. I did this and now I have Belladonna, Arjans Haze #3, and BLZ. now among others. by far the best investment, only thing that is second is my beautiful purple ballast that powers my 600w.

talked it over with the lady. im not ignoring the cleaning. i know it needs disinfected., i just dont wanna do it. if it dosent seem to be happining down there with what im doing now, then ill simply move'em upstairs to the second floor bedroom. acually, i think ima do it today. i know that would give them a better growing enviroment anyway, and i wont have to clean anything ;p and save money heh.

all your basement need is a spray down with bleach water, it will kill everything. d.u.n. done..... Your basement will be far superior to your 2nd floor BR. its a lot cooler down there and you wont have to spend the money on more fans.... My friend grows in his basement and still has dirt floors, not a single problem yet.

i would rather take 1 day and fix the basement buddy. you will regret using the room uptairs later when you have the neverending fight with heat

your right. i thought it over just as i said it earlier, instead today i went out and got a different temp/humidity thermostat. the one i had was digital but the humidity didnt work and the temp was off i knew something wasent right with it. the one i got now is acually showing the humidity and temp correctly, under the 4 cfl's its 84 degrees, humidity at 74, humidity was at 85 earlier. i now have 4 mystery (hopefully) janedoes. heh.

after tweaking a little bit got the temp at 80, i went to the dollar store and bought this reflectable sunviser shit. works real good shits only a dollar for like a 2 x 4 piece. i kinda got it wrapped around my setup. if the humidity doesnt drop below 74 tonight ima move the humidifier in the same room with the janedoes. right now its just chillin in the middle of the basement. but it does drop it down 10 degrees wheres its at now tho.

Before I even got to the end of this thread I was lookin' at the first page pics again of your basement and just wishing that I had a place like that to grow in... man you don't know what your missing out on, it would be so much easier to hide and to control temp wise... i'd redo the basement and have a setup and I mean a S.E.T.U.P. setup!

yea if that was my basement, id clean that shit up and build a 3 x 1000 watt flower area, 1000w mh veg\mother area. perpetual grow and harvest myself a nice couple pounds every 6 weeks :P ... or like this guy and just put a few flowers in the middle of the floor and and hope for the best... doh

Man get rid of that mold first. Creepy. If you have that much now imagine the problems down the road when you add more moisture.

Regarding the 600's. Honestly, they are not worth it. If you are going to run 600's run 1000's. The price is often not that much or at all different for the ballast, the same goes for the bulb. Heat is not an issue if you vent properly and you will get much better penetration and therefore better end results with the 1000's.

A proper hood with a seal between the light is your best friend. Some of the cool tube solutions have little tiny reflectors, often they don't have any which is a waste.
Lol that basement actually isn't that bad for being over 100 years old... I've seen 40 year old basements twice as moldy as that up in PA. :P

don't you mean every 3 weeks

why would it be every 3 weeks?

my idea for a permenant upcoming setup would be;

2x1000 flowering area
1x600 veg/sexing area
small closet space for seedlings.

always have seedlings ready for the veg/sexing area where i'd grow 4 weeks veg, and then start to flower for 2 weeks until sexed, all under the 600, then transplant to larger containers for the remaining 6 weeks flower under the 2x1000's.

i'd think if i kept on top of this, using the sog method that it would be the most efficient as far as space, and yield. (2-3 pounds every 6 weeks)
