New Hydro Grower ... Need Nutrient Assistance

Hello everyone--
So real quick, as the title states, I'm a brand-new grower; jumping right intoHydro. If you want to get really in-depth ... I've never smoked before!! Truestory. My reasons for one day saying "I'm going to set the up” aremy own, but I assure you, it’s a fun story, which I’ll share with you alllater. This is all for my own personal use.

So, at thistime, I will be setting up three or four 5-gallon buckets with DeliciousCritical Jack Auto-flowering. I am at acomplete loss for which type of nutrients/brand of nutrients I should use. Any help would be useful.
I’m leaningtowards a 1-1-1 for veg and 1-3-2 for flower? I’ve attempted to research this online; however, the forums usuallyspiral into fights about ones dick being bigger than another's. So… if we can please keep this civil …. A little help for a new guy?

Welcome! As someone else just getting started recently I suggest you just pick a brand you can buy easily and get started. Like you've noticed this seems to be an area of contention, everyone is going to have their own opinion. Strains are also going to respond differently to different nutrients, so I think the best thing you can do is just get started and get some experience.

Fox Farms, Canna, Advanced Nutrients, General Hydroponics, DynaGrow are all brands people around here use with good results, I don't think there is a magic formula.

Just FYI for everyone though - I can truly appreciate and understand there's no "magic formula." My main concern is really avoiding some Agent Orange mistake on my ladies!! If I can get help avoiding that, I'm happy.

I don't think there is really any kind of Agent Orange situation, lol. The main point of contention seems to be price.

Probably the bigger decision rather than brand is if you want to attempt 'organic' nutrients.

I suggest starting out simple & use a 2 part nutrient like General Hydroponics or Technaflora. Both are similarly priced and of the same quality. Whatever brand you choose be sure to start out at 1/4 strength & get yourself a digital ppm reader as well

One thing for sure is that you dont want to use Fox Farms with any kind of DWC grow. You will have PH swings and dirty ass water. Your best bet for nutrients are either General Hydroponics three part formula or Advanced Nutrients Ph Perfect Part a and b. GH is one of more popular nutrient lines and also the line that i have been using for over a year now with great results, it also has a PH "buffer" which makes PH less likely. People will tell you the PH buffer is bs but ive used alot of diff nutes before and i can tell. Advanced Nutrients would be your best bet becasue it is designed specifically for marijuana and it keeps you PH at a steady 5.7. This is good for new growers because they tend to let the ph fluctuate and that will ruin a grow. Always remember when your doing dwc to only use 1/2 strength on the nutrients then move up from there. It is very easy to overfeed or burn your plants but it is almost impossible to underfeed a plant in DWC. Keep a log of how many tsp your using so every time you change the nutes you know what you should use. Start at 1/2 strength and you should be good, and remember to always keep your ph in check.

Pick up a simple 2 or 3 part base system. Don't expect stellar results your first year or so of growing.

buy everything down at the local hydro supply house and those dudes will tell you everything you need to know
all kinds of shit you aren't thinking of right now, like how to keep your water warm in the winter and cold in the summer....

aside from that, general rules of thumb:
read and follow the directions on the food bottle, they give you a feeding schedule
keep your water at 60 degree and ph 6 ALL 6's so it's easy to remember. change it every week. every week.
buy and use a ph meter every day, buy and use calibration solution every week.
keep your plants at 80 degrees during the "day" and 70 at "night" as best as you can.
buy 1 CO2 bag per plant just in case.

I'm actually going to be using Aquashield; however, I do want to keep that water cool now. I think I just came up with an ingenious and simple solution =D
