Danggg, I just bought one like a week ago. So far all I have done is fire it up for 5 minutes. Seemed bright as shit to me. I upgraded from a 250 no name ballast kit, and a $20 hps bulb from homedepot, to a 400w lumatek bulb and ballast. I got a great deal on the ballast, so I jumped on it, then I did some review searching to find that some lumateks had compatibility problems with bulbs. But the majority of threads I read had good to say. I figured that lumatek knows lumatek...so I copped the lumatek bulb. I also figured that lumatek made those bulbs to support the superlumens switch on the ballast. Hopefully it will serve me well...

I've never had compatibility problems with my lumatek, but then again I never shop at home depot for hps bulbs either. If you buy a high quality bulb you should be fine.

A. Sun Pulse makes an HPS lamp, but it can never be used in high frequency electronic ballasts. Millions of dollars were spent by Sun Pulse Labs, and research clearly proves the HPS lamp cannot be used for electronic HID ballasts, ever. Like the typewriter, HPS lamps are a thing of the past.
In addition, an HPS lamp is approx. 2.2K,( or 22% of the Sun) and has a narrow band of light. Red light also has the least amount of energy of all the colors of the spectrum; you couldn't light a solar panel with HPS light. Why pay money to make light that has the least amount of energy

they are a high priced SUGGESTION, quite astonishing tho! i have use the 400 high pressure metal halide with GREAT results, BUT like i said, not cheap.

i have a separate room for veg so i dont need a lamp like that. but the lumatek bulbs PAR rating is 1030 what is your mh's par rating??

I think you might have misread my post... I never actually ran into compatibility issues with my bulb and ballast, I just read about other people running into that issue, especially with hortilux bulbs on 1000w lumatek ballasts. The only bulb I've fired from my lumatek ballast is a lumatek bulb.

Oh, still.. all I use is hortilux plus lumatek and it works great. Sometimes hortilux bulbs thems are bad.

Also hortilux is 88,000 lumens and lumatek is 92,000 lumens for the 600w so by numbers the lumateks are brighter, but I don't know how wide their spectrum is compared to the hortilux
Yeah I think you're right. That makes alot more sense than compatibility issues. I guess Hortilux has some consistency issues. I have read many posts of people using lumateks with hortilux with great results, and some with burning out the bulb in a week or two.
