New plant, thin stem

Hey everyone

I decided to try to try my first grow a few weeks ago.. just wait until I get some good bud and get some seeds from it. I got 4 or 5 good seeds and germinated them.. long story short, I have 1 seedling and its looking thin. I'm growing outside in a screened in patio so it gets sunlight for as long as the suns up, watered every other day, planted in miracle gro seedling starter soil in a regular cup

So my question.. does this plant look normal? It's a week or 2 old. It looks thin to me. Any advice on what it needs? Thanks..

Peace :joint:

Put some more dirt around the stem. It will make it stronger. I would try to fill up that cup to right under the top. Leave a little space so water doesn't overflow. What kind of light r you using and how close is it to the plant. It looks a little stretched.

It's in sunlight for about 9 hours a day ...then its under a 60 watt in my closet for about 8 more hours.. about 5 or 6 inches away

The more lumens, the better... people will debate about what kind of bulbs are the best, but it's all about your budget and how your growroom is set up...

LOL, you can't use a "regular" bulb; it doesn't provide the right spectrum for the plant to use. If you can't afford an HID system or T5's, get a couple of CFL's, the highest wattage you can get. They will get you by for a couple of months until you need to flower it.

yea .. i just went and bought CFL lights for my closet
I knew there might be something off. but Right on, your on the road to success, your plant will fatten up with those flourescent cfls, oh and make sure their the blue "daylight" spectrum for vegitative growth. peace.

you should go to my grow journal
A girl's first time
and look at my plants before and after. your streching the plants, so buy cfls and put them 1-3inches away from the plant and make sure you bury the stem an inch before the first set of leaves.
I made alot of similar mistakes, but i corrected them and now they look great... for now lol!

Alright, well, I see you have already started to resolve the problem but let me try to explain. When people (newbies) try to grow indoors (even tomatos) people often believe that a simple light bulb, or a bright light like halogen will work. Wrong. You have to have the proper light spectrum (aka Kalvin Temp. or K), and proper lumens output. All incandescant lights do is put out heat and yellow light. For the same price as a couple good cfl's of random k/lumens, you can buy a "SunBlaze" T5 HO 24" flouro tube. That will allow you to get one, maybe two plants pretty bushey before needed to upgrade.
Read some of the grow faqs, watch youtube videos on growing. NEVER rely on what you think will work. Good luck.
