New set up/cooling help

i recently purchased a 6'x6'x19'' zip up closet and figured i would make a small grow closet in it. I have a 600w apollo MH light hooked up at 50 percent dim and It runs HOT.. I wasnt expecting it to be this hot im not sure of the exact temp, my humidity/temp gage is coming in the mail. I have a 4'' duct fan coming tmr and i was thinking of making a 3'' hole and craming it in the sidr and supporting it with rope to the beam above. Would i run ducting from near the bulb to the fan facing out of the closet? Or would it be best to face the fan towards the bulb with no ducting? Any suggestions id appreciate. The card board in the closet is temporary. Its to keep the water from soaking into the cloth. And i only plan on havin 3 plants in there while flowering. Thanks

Definitely get a Humidity/Temp gauge and fine a way to stop all that light from leaking! I'm new at growing but from reading around those are 2 major problems I saw right off the bat :/

your gonna havta light proof it, not to keep the light in but to keep light out (light leaking in during dark hrs will stress the plants). if nothing else you could get more large cardbord boxes and duct-tape to panel the whole thing on the outside (the white material will be good reflective on the inside). taming the heat of a 600w for a small tent gonna be a trick , cut a hole near the top and use your 4" fan to blow the hot air out, you will need another fan blowing fresh air in dwn low on the opposite side , or better yet get an air cooled hood and duct that w the one 4" fan (either way you still gonna need fresh air in/out). you can get cheap thermometer/hydrometer at HomeDepo for 3bucks, you definitly want one to help you get the temp under control, i kinda like the mobile closet conversion idea, i wanna see pics when you get the add-ons done.
w your dimmable ballast, you can use a 300w or 400w bulb, if you concede on tryin to tame that 600w ...just an option to keep in mind

My thermometer will be here tmr along with the duct fan. Is it necessary to get a second fan? Or would a larger hole (about 5-6") work? And is there anything else I can do besides cover the outside with cardboard? Maybe cover it in a tarp or cover the insides with cardboard and then maybe white poster board on top of the cardboard? Or aluminum? I know aluminum isn't the best choice butIits inexinexpensive

Bit of typos due to my phones autocorret. Wont let me edit. Cooled hood? How much is that, what is it, and where could I fit it at? Can a 400w bulb fit in my 600w fixture?

i would go to walmart/kmart and get some foam backed poster board in white and use that to build your walls, floor and ceiling. this is the type of board you used for your science projects back in school. secure with either hvac foil tape or white duct tape. iirc each 3x3 board is about 5.00 or less.

and deffinately get a cool tube hood, matched with a good fan and ductwork. that will help with hood temps. you still need a fresh air in and an exhaust air put. exhaust fan should always be a little stronger than the intake fan for negetive pressure.

Ok the foam poster board is a good idea thank you. And what kind of duct work should I do to it? Where do I buy a cooling hood at? I cant put any more money into the lights ive spent 400 so far on three lights. If I have a fan puahing air out at the top and air being pushhed thru the bottom by another fan wouldnt that be enough? Or is all the duct work necessary? I dont know much about duct work so if someone could elaborate i would appreciate it.

And i thought the hole where air is coming in has to be larger than the hole where the air is escaping?

Thanks for the responses

I feel like if there is a bigger exhaust fan its creating a vacuuming pressure if that makes sense. And I feel like if the exhause is smaller the tent will alnost blow up like a balloon

Get propper grow tent, you are obviously not worried about stealth, so I would get a grow tent. It will solve all your problems. However 600watt is way to big for that area, you will always have heat probs, 400watt max with very good ducting and extraction fans in a grow tent about the size of your zip up cab and probably a cool tube also imho.

ok........... u want passive intake not forced like these people are telling u........ your intake needs to be 3 times larger than your exhaust............ u said a duct fan?.......u need inline fans and a sealed hood..........if by duct fan u mean little booster fan that will never work..... you will have to do some shopping

3 times bigger? Okay so should I get a 10" fan blowing in and a 4" blowing out with a hood? And I will switch to a 400w. If im running a 600 at 50 percent dim does that mean its pushing 300w out?

Okay I understand the difference. All the inline fans I see are rated at about 200cfm do I need that much power ?
yes........more............u could probably get away w a sealed hood and one six inch fan but really u should have a 6 in for the hood and a 4 in for the filter...........no intake fan passive intake

Huh????? your telling me your intake fan needs 3x more cfm than your exhaust. LOL shit, my tent would blow up like a ballon and pop/rip out all the zippers and seams.

im running 2 4x4x7 tents. veg tent has a 6" 250cfm booster fan, an 8" 550 cfm booster fan, 6" 440 cfm ventech fan for my air cooled xl hood (duct/fan/duct/tent/ducthood/duct/tent/duct), and 3 clip type fans on the inside. been vegging for 2 months and ZERO issues with this negative pressure setup. in my flower tent im running a 8" 550cfm booster fan for intake, 6" 440cfm ventech fan for the cool tube xl hood (duct/fan/duct/tent/duct/hood/duct/tent/duct), and another 6" 440cfm ventech fan for my carbon scrubber (6" inlet x 8"wx24"l) (filter/fan/duct/tent/duct), and 3 clip type fans.

OP, you want negative pressure, not positive. if you have positive pressure in a flower tent, the positive pressure is allowing the smelly air to seap thru the zippers, seams, ect and not thru your carbon scrubber. now your grow area is a stinking mess and not cleaned up from the scrubber.
