400w hid's are HOT... if you hook that thing up your electric bill will jump maybe $30 a month, maybe more. Plus you will need ventilation to cool it, unless you can keep it really far away from the plants. It will definitely get better and more buds... IF you can make it work... but that's a lot of work.

The best things for plants is to have a good environment, good temp, humidity, air flow... with those things in check, more light is always better.

Also, it may be that your boy has an HPS ballast and bought a MH conversion bulb for it. You definitely want to know what ballast it is... it should say on it somewhere. Or have a code

Good point about the ballast. but im almost sure the ballast does say MH but i will check wen i get home tonight. im also gonna get the reference number on it and see f i can find out what exactly it is. I dont know much about HID's except that my car has them lol, If it is an MH ballast, can i put a hps bulb in?

You can get eiter kind of bulb for either kind of ballast. You just need to make sure it is the RIGHT ONE. If you have an MH ballast it runs MH bulb, but you can get an HPS Conversion for it. Not just a normal HPS though. If you have an HPS ballast you can run an HPS bulb, but also an MH Conversion bulb. I'm not sure if I'm being really clear or really confusing.

So wen i get home ill beggin to set up my grow room with the HPS. Now how far should i have that hps from the tops of my plants?

I'm guessing it's not aircooled, so the determining factor will probably be the heat. So pretty much as close as you can get the plants without heat stressing them. The old hand rule comes into play. Turn on the light and stick your hand where you are going to put the plants. If you can hold it there for a minute without hurting it should be fine for the plants. I would guess something like 16" a little more or less.

As for too much light, you would need to be closer than 6" from the buds, probably less than 4" from the buds to bleach them with light... that won't be an issue.

yea i know about the whole hand trick. I wasent able to hook up the HPS last night because i didnt have a chain to hang it with but ill be stopping to get one wen i get off of work and hopefully they can wake up tomorrow morning to some new sunshine!
Im hopin that my grow room will stay around the same temp as now since i do have a shit load of cfls that all together generate a good bit of heat. i mean my grow "closet" stays at least 10 deegres hotter than the rest of my aptment already wen the door is closed.

My 2 older "girls" turned out to be dudes!!! i took them down tonite after realizing that the "pre buds" that where forming where like ll grape lookin things so i compared them online and sure nuff they where balls. So i clipped them down so they wouldnt get in the way og my White widow girl. it sucks cuz now im down to juss 2 plants one witch is juss another bag seed and i hope aint another male; and all the time love and money i put into those dudes. But at least i lerned what i know now and now i got everything i need to really grow. MH and HPS lightining, and everything ive lerned from everyone here like i mentioned. Now my concern is: Should i put the plants i have left back into veg for a few more weeks; or should i let them stay on 12/12 witch they have been on for the last week? some body let me know please... i juss tryin to make the best possible of what i got now so i can get ready to start a new grow after my new seeds come inn.

You probably want the two plants bigger since you have the room... so go ahead and start them on veg again. It will take them a couple days to get with the program, but they will start growing veg style again, the when they get big to how you want them go back to 12/12.

You can still get a good yeild from 2 or even 1 plant, just a little longer in veg to get them big enough.

You got to remember that those 2 plants are in my AG also. Their about 10 inches tall and have about 4 full sets of leafs. You think i should still put them back into veg?

Really up to you man.... the only reason not to is time and space. If they can get bigger, let them get bigger, if not, just let them go. It's not that big a thing either way.

ok cool. im juss gonna let them stay on 12/12. i just wanna get this 1st grow out the way so i can start my second one. I may be movin out of my aptmnt and into a house soon so ill be able to dedicate a whole room into this witch would be awesome compared to my closet lol.

girls are lookin good! still growin nicely even tho their on 12/12 and their startin to show some pre budding. Unfortunately eather USPS or the attitude seed bank is jokin around with my order and USPS web site said said it was delivered yesterday at 12:15 but i never got it. I got my local USPS trying to locate my package and they said they would call me back today wen the curier gets back from delivery btu im hoping that there was some error and it will be delivered today.

So i did get my seeds wednesday like i hoped, only 7 days from UK to GA. Just started 1 the church, 1 Afghan kush x skunk, and 1 rode runner witch was one of my free seeds along wit a california hash plant. Anybody has any experience starting plants from seed on 12/12? i really dont have anywhere to veg.
