New to Indoor Growing.

Hey there.

I started my first grow outdoor as something to teach myself slowly on how to grow, After making several mistakes I feel a little bit more confident when it comes to creating a small setup in my room.

I bought some seeds off Herbies but when it comes to lighting and Soil I'm still a little bit unsure.

This is my Shopping List:
Vermiculite
Perlite
Some Potting Mix that has Chicken Manure, Blood & Bone, Seaweed and Fish. (Which I used on my Outdoor pot before and worked wonders.
2 X 30 Watt CFLS.

My friend said to ditch the CFLs and get some proper lights but it's kind out of my price range, He also told me to start with Rockwool and Coco Peat but I've heard Perlite is ideal.

Maybe someone could point me in the right direction or offer some guidance to a Newbie Grower.

goood morning

first of your on the right track
i use coco and perlite mix almost a 50/50 it is very forgiving and your going to want that especially for your first indoor grow, some leniency.

in my opinion i would ditch the cfl's but there are many many ppl out there that will swear by them!!!! i dont knock them one bit just not for me.

if you can save up some $$$ you can spend about 150$ and get yourself a really nice T5HO setup 4ft 8bulb online
if you want to go the hps/mh way you can do that as well and you can find out there a 250w watt'er for around the same prices

next how many plants are trying to grow???

being its your first indoors dont go crazy with it your gunna have some bad luck id stick to 2-5 some ppl will say only one but i think most of us can handle up to 5

i use the T5 4ft 8bulb and my ladies love it! too its cheap to run easy to handle the heat and you can damn near lay them on your plants 2-5" away but you can also do that with cfl's well more have too or they will grow slow and really lengthy

Welcome fellow new grower. I can definitely understand starting out growing on a tight budget. When I started a couple of years ago I had no money to spend so I did my first couple of indoor grows with CFLs and they worked out pretty decent for me. I mounted six of them on a four foot piece of metal roofing and painted it flat white for reflection, then used that fixture to flower two plants at a time my closet. Very easy for me to keep the area cool too with just a box fan and a cheap bathroom exhaust fan mounted above the shade. Of course, I also have a window in my closet that I could open for fresh air so if you don't have that you'll want some sort of fresh air intake, otherwise you'll probably see some powdered mildew on your leaves eventually among other problems.

After that though I ended up breaking down at the next tax time and getting my first 600 watt HPS light kit off of ebay for like $160. I then had to also drop another $100 or so on duct work and exhaust fans before I could get my room cool enough, but I've almost tripled my harvest per plant since then though so in the long run it was well worth it for me. I have seen some fantastic grows on here using CFLs though so who knows what could have been if I had tossed my cash into upgrading my CFL grow instead. Either way, rock those CFLs man and good luck growing! 8)

Thanks for the advice man, I'll give Coco Peat and Perlite a go and see if the strain loves it! I'm only going to be trying with one plant for now, I would like to learn the process and study it before I spend everything I have on a setup ... Work my way up!
As for lights, I'll try CFLS for now because their cheap but if I feel they're not doing the job they should be I'll throw in a extra few bucks for the lights you suggested.

It's almost the end of Summer here in Australia and would like to grow inside due to how cold it can get. That's good to hear I might try something like that, I've only got a few bucks to work with for a one plant set up .. It's not like I'm expecting high yielding plants for this particular set up ... More for a research purposes to help me perfect this skill.

My seeds germinated and ready to go! I'll post some pictures of her progress when she starts sprouting. Thanks for advice.
