I think im ordering parts today. 8 3590s, 2 HLG-120-1050B on 2 30" heat sinks. Do you think I need to bother with dimming?
like the switch better. These wattages are scaring me a bit. I've been doing the 400/600 so long that 300 seems too low.or have I been over killing it?120 = 150 watts
185 = 200 watts
240 = 250 watts
The 2 120s will be just right for 8 3590s.
You probably want dimming if you're vegging in there too. Pots generally have a +-3% accuracy (or slightly more or less depending on which pot. The more expensive ones are more accurate) so it's possible a pot will limit your output to 97% or whatever. For this reason I usually suggest adding a 10K ohm resistor in series with the pot, but since your PPFD is going to be pretty high anyway you could skip the resistor no worries. If you get a pot and wire both drivers to it you will need a 50K ohm pot. If you get a pot for each lamp then you will need 2 100K ohm pots, one for each.
You might like the adjustability of a pot, but I prefer putting a switch and resistor in series between the dim wires. For instance, if wiring two drivers to a switch and resistor, a 25K ohm resistor would provide 50% output. If wiring one driver to a switch and resistor a 50K ohm resistor would provide 50% output.

BonjourI got everything ordered except for resistors which I can get locally. Woke up to phone calls from credit card company saying I had fraudulent charges. Ugh! The froze payments so I had to reorder. Don't get me wrong I'm glad they are watching so I don't get robbed but damn it makes shit difficult.
Sometimes the CC company will freeze a card when making unusual purchases, like large $ to an overseas company. The first couple times I tried to order from Kingbrite my CC company rejected the charges.Bonjour
Could you please tell us where those fraudulent charges come from!??
